But, YES, once the voting is closed, the results will be revealed.

Just wondering: will you be revealing all the 1st place votes (the total number of 1st places votes for each entry), 2nd place votes, and 3rd place votes separately? This way people can weigh the votes however they please (or skew their perspectives; whatever floats their boat wink )

Upon second thought, you are all correct!! The votes should be weighted. My original thought was that that was not going to be necessary. But, I was thinking right after I typed that last message... And you guys confirmed what I was thinking.

So, I will do as suggested. 3 points for first, 2 for second, etc...

And, I will still show the number of votes so you can see them also.

Don't worry, Spiff . . . . what were your odds to begin with, anyway?

    tongue

EDIT: The odds of Spiff winning are approximately 1 in 27.

Mathematically speaking, yes. Some entries have way higher and way lower than a 1 in 27 shot at placing in this contest, though wink . Your odds aren't purely based on probability. tongue

As a film-submitting partipant in this contest that is not currently among the favorites in this thread, but certainly not in the bottom of the barrel, I must say that people can certainly be mean-spirited in their reviews.

I now understand why actors don't read their reviews - it can be very disheartening to put so much effort into something to only have it trashed or dismissed so easily.

That said, I thankfully have a pretty thick skin so I can deal with it.

However, I think people should stick to judging the choreography and not making personal assessments of people's posture, acting skills, appearance, etc.

    Hector

As a film-maker, I feel I must comment on this. You are right, people can be mean spirited. I was as well with my reviews. However I have no need to appoligise and I won't. As a film maker, you must learn to become thick skinned.

A lot of my comments, were perhaps harsh, but it doesn't mean that I don't respect what any of them have done. I respect every single person that took part in, and submitted a film.

When I was commenting, I commented on what I saw. I judged it. I said my opinions. This is a competition.

I've had some of my films ripped apart, and other people have enjoyed. Those that were ripped apart, oh well. I'll do beter next time, and that's what people here should be saying when they get a bad review. They shouldn't be crying about it. It's just a film.

Also, why actors don't read their reviews? What about the directors? The film is up to the director, the acting is up to the director, most of the film is up to the director. It would be the director that would be the most hurt. But hey, it's art, and anything the public sees, well you have to be prepared to build up a brick wall and either ignore the critisism, or take it as advice for your next project.

The same goes for comments on appearance: chubby, lanky, hot, tall, etc., are not needed. These are not comments on acting or delivery, but on people's looks, so that's what I was addressing.

I doubt any comments on appearance affected a person's vote. It didn't for me, even though I commented on one guys atire and a beautiful girl.

As for cinematography, stances, etc... well this is a competition where you submit films of your fight choreography. Most of the attention should be on the choreography, about 90% or 95% of it should be only on choreography, but everything else, you need to at least judge a bit on how it was filmed, edited, styles used, over-all effort put into the look.

Just a small addendum to NitroBlade's note on cinematography:

The integration of the camera into a fight, as essentially the "third perspective" is integral to what I would call "film choreography". The objective of a filmed fight is to play to the camera - wherever it may be. The objective of a staged fight/circus/ballet is to perform to the static audience and whatever solid angle they occupy.

Note that if we were practicing stage choreography, everyone would have locked down on a tripod and performed. And I don't think any of us believe that would make a better contest... especially in the interest of propagating film making skills.

Quick update: 254 votes so far!!

How the hell are 254 people following this thread close enough to vote?!? shock

That's great!! I expect the voting will easily break 300 before it closes.
