Hello all,

"AVATAR: Torment" - Episode 1 is completed and ready to view

Click here to see "AVATAR: Torment" at www.kanefilms.com

Most of you may know that this one almost vanished on me a few months back after hard drive failures...but after some creative data recovery, some re-rendering, and a decision to move to a serial like episode release, I am very happy to get this one done.

Thanks to Durb for voice work, and to Funk-E for coming on board as I move forward with my next project.

Enjoy !!!

Pardon me while I cry out loud for letting Mike down by not completing my work on this project. cry

I wish the best of luck to him and his crew in getting this thing finished!!

EDIT: I would like to clarify that I only say that because, I really do feel bad that I am not as involved in this project as I could have been (I need to invent a time machine...) Mike has got a really great idea going here, with some really awesome characters, stories, and ideas.
I'm a big fan of this kind of stuff. I hope all you folks are as impressed with it as I have been.

WOW!!!! I love the red particles going through the window, the planets and backgrounds looked very real. I could not see any faults on the characters animation, curious do you work with a biped or bones or both?

That was really good cant wait to see the next one.

Both actually. It depends on what the animation will be. Most of the time, its biped, but for loops, or where I need some more precise keying control, I like bones. I actually have some models rigged both ways.

Already said this on ViewAskew, but this was very cool. I loved the animation and the characters. It's cool to see AVATAR again, back in action. Congrats on a new first intallment!

BTW, what was the average render time for each frame on this project?

It was made with 3dsmax and Vegas video. Render times vary alot depending on the scene. The planet shots, for example, render pretty quickly, it took more time to set it up than it did to render. I had the MArs scene complete with motion blurred asteroid done in 2 hours. The Baby room scene with the raytraced shadows from the blinds took about 20 hours.

You're going to find that such is the way with ANY 3D app. Rendering time depends entirely on textures, lighting, complication of models, etc... Not to mention the strength of the system that is doing the work.

There is no benchmark for what is an adequate render time. It is totally specific to whatever project you are working on.

Hell, I had a scene I did in Bryce, where just one element in the background camera pass toook 2 days to render!
