I was wondering how to make your eyes look evil with out looking stupid(or contacts). I've tried a few time and every time it looks kinda lame. I'm somewhat new-or in the learning stages so be nice. I can make light-sabers and force lightning look not bad but i'm having a little trouble with this one. The shot is just me in front of the camera(close up) with my eyes close then I open them then the shots ends, all about 5 seconds. there are a few other ways that I have yet to try but I was wondering what all you pro out there can help me with?

What method are you trying?

I've never done this, being an animator rather than a live-action type, but I imagine that without some of Hollywood's latest software, your best bet is to rotoscope the eyes. Then just cycle the hue setting until you get the color you want and remember that setting...

What effect are you actually going for, is another good question. Are you trying to change a natural brown to a natural green, or are you trying to make the eyes glow red like some sort of demonic possession?

Here's a reasonably foolproof way if you just want to change the colour:

- Make two layers of your footage, each set to "Normal" blending mode.
- Rotoscope each iris on the top layer with a mask set to "add", and feather the mask a few pixels at the edge to make sure the transition isn't too sharp.
- Apply a hue/saturation filter to the top layer, and set it to "colorize". Adjust the hue and saturation to the colour and intensity you want... Don't tweak the "lightness" setting, or bright glares will start to change colour, which you don't want.
- Finally, adjust the opacity of the top layer to mix it with the original image to get the desired shade.

You can do this with varying degrees of subtlety. Here are a few examples using an image I found with a google search:

That's cool, I love the top left one.

I could be wrong, but I believe the top left one is the actual eye color.

That is a really cool trick.

If I may add to it...
Since you'll have a nice mask made to follow the iris anyway... If you still want to add a glow, you should be able to do that as well by simply duplicating the masks and applying the standard blurs.

That would look really cool. Makes me want to make a Dune fan film now.

The top left one is indeed the original. Nifty iris the guy has - it's usually pretty hard to beat nature wink

As for adding glow - you'll find that adding glow layers doesn't work as well as you'd think. Usually people's eyes aren't so brightly glowing that they blow out to the extent of a lightsaber, and the extra blurred layers tend to make the eye hazy.

In these cases you want to experiment with un-blurred or only slightly blurred 'add' layers (in 32 bit linear), or try to use the 'exposure' effect to increase their relative brightness.

You can also experiment with the 'channel mixer' to get more specific results than just hue/sat.

Well then I see why you found it on Google images in the first place, it's freakin' sweet tongue In that case the yellow one is cool looking too.

But on close ups you notice they're fake.
