Muggle.Net and Harry Potter Forum's are both kinda dead sticks. This contest was posted and most of it's users are aware of this contest, they all declined. I think mostly due to them being H.P. Fans, not really into film making. For next year I will continue to announce and link the WDC onto those boards.

As far as this years entry's, Both were really nice! I don't have anything really negative to say about them. By far way better then anything we saw last year!

Although it's only 2 entries, the combined run-time is enough for about 6 entries.

December 2007. That's right, I've sat on it for two years. Want the proof? Well... you can't handle the proof!

Anyone else not really like the Aveda Kedavra curse? I feel like it takes away the creativity and improvazation wand duels should carry. All I could think about when writing my own wand duel is why we don't just throw AKs until one hits.

Well the "why" don't they just throw AK's at each other should come from the thorough understanding of the HP universe...

The Avada Kedavra curse breaks up your soul each time you use it. It is a really nasty curse to use, one of the 3 unforgivable curses.

Hence the difference between curses and spells happy

That is something that really comes up in the HP stories and no one seems to memorize it...

Curses come with great nastiness....

Just like when the emperor would say "Let's just fire the Death Star upon each planet that does not want to listen to the reign of the empire!"

He'd have no galaxy left to rule tongue as everything would turn into chaos...

The curse doesn't break your soul. The act of murdering does. Tom Riddle used the Basilisk to kill Moaning Myrtle, splitting his soul and creating the diary horcrux. Severus Snape used AK to kill Dumbledore as an act of good and his soul wasn't split.

All the curse really does is turn wands into one hit kill weapon. I'm not disputing it's use in the potter-verse; I'm disputing it's inclusion. For good or for bad, the curse is still the golden gun of the series. I'd rather just play without it.

**edited for spoilers**

There is a lot of build up to Avada Kedavra. You can't just say it a bunch of times. Some of it will land but it won't kill. You really got to mean the words to kill someone, so saying it effortlessly wouldn't work at all.

Yes, this I know, but that's not really the point I'm trying to make. If I'm writing a duel between a murderous Death Eater and a battle hardened Auror who hates the Dark Arts (think of Crouch allowing the Aurors to use The Unforgivable Curses), I see no reason why what could be a conceptually fantastic duel between experienced wizards turn into a shootout with death curses.

I know how this curse works and the consequences that come with it, I'd just rather due without it so I could justify some more elaborate wand work. Think of this in Lightsaber terms. If I see a missed opportunity where one fighter could so easily have killed his opponent, The fight looses credibility because either the choreographer missed the opening or just didn't think anyone would notice. If I'm writing a wand duel and I want the duelist to be able to have an awesome fight, I'm not going to want to be restricted by the thought that they could just shoot an unblockable curse that kills every time**.

**Except on two occasions when fired at Harry**

In the HP films the duels drive a bit of the story. Like why wouldn't the death eaters in ootf not shoot only AK's... Because there were plans and a story to drive.

Voldemort takes over the Wizard world by fear and saddening his victims....

And they could have still wanted to extract information from the young wizards....

In these duels it indeed is harder to get this is... but I'm sure there can be found creative ways to kill the opponent happy *cough* Carnivora's duel *cough*

No judges have submitted anything yet (lazy!), so it's open to anyone. DO a write-up and a score out of 10, and they will count as the judges scores. 24 hours to go.

Pro's

- The acting was pretty good and sometimes even believable
- You have nice wands happy
- 'David' acted believable when he used the 'crucio' curse ---> look at his hand... totally voldemort style badass! skull
- You had a story! I love a story that goes with the duel!
- Your location is awesome! Also the places you found (were there is not only Forrest but also a lake and some open space...)

The Cons

- You had a story BUT... The editing made the story somewhat weird in some places
- There was very little duel, although throughout the film there were many little fights, due to the editing it didn't feel that menacing. For example: there are a few points in the movie were the two death eaters were just standing there doing nothing while the girl had not yet turned around (a perfect time to shoot your AK).
- There are too many wide shots, closen up on the actors and their emotions!

Score: 7/10

Dr. Carnivora
The Pro's

- Also a nice setting
- The choreography was great and like Ben said, it was diverse.
- The speed at which you duel is great and actually very nicely performed (as in: It's not just whacking and turning your wands around)
- the acting is good happy
- The ending is just terrific! Pure Navajo Joe films style!

The Cons

- What happened to the aspect ratio is some places? It sometimes looks like the film is stretched... (I read from the comments on YT that the raw footage was lost due to HD failure...?)
- Although it's up to you, I find the lack of pronounced spells/curses disturbing --> It sometimes look like a blaster fight...

Score: 8/10

Both duels did a nice job and had their strengths and weaknesses.
What you both can improve on is to make use of the location, that would be a nice thing to see.

I certainly hope we see more candidates next year, meanwhile I'll try my best to get this even more in the spotlights happy

Thanks to all contestants!
