That's why I get my news from the internet. When they start to babble, I just go back to Google.

I was just browsing CTRL-ALT-DEL, he had a link to a friend's movie pitch. The guy's trying to get sponsors so he can get it made.
It's the format that is most interesting.

I actually think that sounds like a great premise. I immediately imagined it like "Where the Wild Things Are."
I don't understand the film thing, honestly, but some people just get their hearts set on it...

Some days are longer than others.

This entire project was done in one day, and I'm pretty happy at how it turned out.

My entry for The Who Windmill Contest

Watch it in HD!

Little bit of info:

The contest was announced a while back, but I've only been able to put something together starting today. We shot it on the HVX with a Letus Extreme and Canon FD Glass (24, 35, 50, 85)

I did all the sound design once we were done shooting (around 5 o'clock today)

The real trick was that it had to be done under 30 seconds. I wanted to play to my strengths as a filmmaker and make it have a little bit of a story, as well as showing off the guitar tricks. There's probably better guitarists entered in the contest, but probably none with production value.

Buy why Super 16?

You got me. Actually, I'm gonna send the CAD guy an e-mail asking that very question. I'm sure the guy's got his reason(s), but you never know.
I'll let you know if he replies.

Super 16 is awesome and not harder to shoot in any respects compared to digital if you know what you're doing. The same basic properties apply when it comes to lighting, sound recording, and everything else. The only difference is that you really need to know what you're doing in all aspects of production, you can't just grab the camera and shoot anywhere, which alone cuts down most of the amateur filmmaking society by 85%. The result will be a better looking image due to it being shot on film (opinion), and it opens up thousands (exaggerated) of more possibilities of lenses, frame-rates, and other options by not shooting digital. Yeah it's more expensive, but totally worth it IMO.

So, yeah, I just finished watching Hung on HBO. Mildly amusing, it has some potential, but I'm thinking its going to be largely a one-trick (pardon the pun) pony.

16 gives you a look you simply can't get with video. In my opinion 16 is actually harder to "cheat" than 35, because 16 is grainier, rougher, more organic... you can make a slick HD movie that looks like a slick 35 movie, but 16's a different beast.

Two extreme examples: "Funny Ha Ha" and "Clerks". I recently joked that "Funny Ha Ha" may be the first film to contain more grain than image. But it makes the frame crackle with life, burst with energy.

I've never shot on film, but if I had to, I'd actually choose 16 over 35, assuming the project would benefit from that roughness. (If it was another one of my cold and sterile exercises in detachment, well, hmm.)
