Hey guys, long time since I've visited these boards. Anyway, thought you might enjoy a little teaser trailer I threw together the other night for The Empire Strikes Back. Editing was done in Adobe Premiere CS3. Enjoy.

Pretty good, actually. Only critiques would be too much black space in between some of those cuts, and check the levels of the audio because its pretty high up in the red I'm sure
Oh, and the text was less than exciting to me. Try a smaller, more trailer-esque font. Good job.

Last Samurai trailer music?
I have a habit of re-editing things like this thing in my head, so bear with me here.
I like it style-wise, but it does feel like some of the big fade-to-black shots were not as significant as they could've been. The first shot was very striking, definitely a departure from the visuals someone who's just seen
A New Hope
was expecting. However, perhaps being a little more selective for "moment" shots rather than just content. Like, the snowspeeders flying away from the camera could've been replaced with one of those low-flying shots with the laser fire flying all around, or you could've used the close-up of Obi-Wan. And I prolly would've shown Luke crawling away in the end and had the last shot been Vader moving in all menacing-like. That's a closing image that sticks with you. There were a few more, but I don't have to pick away at every one. TESB is my favorite movie, I could do this all day. Should prolly just make my own, lol.
For a teaser trailer in this format, you should shoot for iconic as often as possible. You use small moments in-between to give a feeling a scale and story, like your shots of Yoda and Lando, but you definitely want to throw in your dramatic and/or money shots. In place of Yoda sitting still in the hut, you could've used the shot of Yoda beckoning Luke to follow him, or for Lando he could've been running through the Cloud City halls, which would introduce the character but also invoke a feeling of urgency or danger.
Which you did do, don't get me wrong. It's good work for sure. You've made me want to go watch TESB, so the teaser is a success.

Very nicely done, sir. The audio is a little hot.
Vapes
, I disagree. Taken within the context of having never seen any of the Star Wars films except for
A New Hope
, this trailer works well as a teaser. A trailer, especially a teaser, shouldn't give the film away. We saw Vader, Luke, Han, Leia, aliens, ships, stormtroopers, snow, and lightsabers that look about 500 times more awesome than the last time we saw them on screen. If Kershner had never made
Empire
, and Lucas was just now gearing up to begin making Star Wars movies again after 42 years, we'd be falling all over ourselves in the social thread at the release of a trailer like this.

I'm sure we would. And it prolly breaks down to a style preference. I'm not saying give away the farm, far from it, since that's really not what a trailer for. A fan tribute maybe, but not a trailer lol. This trailer most reminds me of the Clone Wars "Breathing" teaser. That started off with a number of close-ups of the main characters, then broke into displays of epic scenery and/or action. In comparison, the only issue I have with this one is that for the most part, we keep seeing close-ups of the same people in different locations.
Milarc, I just watched your Star Wars/Trek trailer on your YouTube. I did something similar for that same trailer a while back, only with SeaQuest DSV, which is why it stood out.
It's also pretty good, there's a few shots in there that were just really good calls for that particular moment. Han turning around in the gun turret and the shots around it stood out for some reason. The edits are a lot better than most of the fan stuff I see on YouTube.
I'm kind of tempted to do one of these now. Maybe a Breathing teaser for TESB. I've never been able to make a decent video for Star Wars, as it became Vidina's previously stated issue of trying to show too much. The first one, I eventually realized Tartakovsky's "Clone Wars" didn't really fit that well with Collective Soul's "Heavy" (I was close, though) and the second one wound up being like six minutes and not edited together altogether creatively.
So at least Milarc's got the right idea, lol.

Well, if anything I say this constitues a challenge. If it's not TOS-savvy, I'll host it myself.
ESB-Teaser challenge, anyone?
...
Pixel
Calling Pixel_Magic?
Whatever.
I'll do it regardless.
Empire Strikes Back
Trailer...
GO.
EDIT:
I've been looking for this forever. I've finally found it. This is the trailer that originally turned me on to Star Wars.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QBMBbertodU&feature=related
EDIT2:
Srsly, I can quote it. "For those who remember. For those who will never forget. And for a whole new generation, who will experience it for the very first time. The Star Wars trilogy! Three timeless adventures that changed moviemaking forever. Now, the entire trilogy digitally mastered in THX, for the ultimate in sound, and picture quality. This will be your last chance to own the original version of
Star Wars
. The George Lucas masterpeice that launched the Star Wars Trilogy. The Force is forever. For all generations. The original Star Wars trilogy - on video - one... last... time.
EDITEDITEDIT: Then again, I guess they were going for waaaayback retro with this stuff:

I've seen that THX trailer so many times. I bought that Star Wars trilogy set for my older brother originally, but guess who turned out to be the geek of the family? Love that Special Edition trailer too. The tiny TV thing was a good idea.
The CGI in those X-Wing shots is so great. Still beats out a lot of the CGI released in movies today.
I might be up for a trailer challenge, not sure if I have the time for an in-depth edit. I was mostly just considering doing that breathing thing for kicks. I would say one of the rules of a contest would be no trailer-riffs. You could use songs that've been used in trailers before, but using audio from existing trailers would be out of play. Makes it too easy.

I liked it.
Best bit: The edit of Vader in his chamber
Worst bit: I wouldn't have put Obi-Wan in it, seeing as it's a teaser. Bit of a spoiler there.

I almost said the same thing, and then I remembered that Obi-wan's voice comes back to life in ANH, so it's not THAT much of a spoiler, actually.

Yeah, but it's the first force ghost that you see. Definitely a spoiler

Awesome to hear feedback, guys. I made the trailer with the idea that no star wars film has been released besides A New Hope, and this is our first teaser/look at the 'new film'. I left some of the more iconic shots out of the teaser so as not to spoil the big moments in the movie. I had 'teaser' very much in mind while I was splicing this together. But it sounds like you guys generally enjoyed it. Glad to hear it.

I'm pretty sure we're not supposed to be directly linking to Star Wars footage on here, but if you check the Vimeo link in my sig you should be able to see my latest creation.
Thanks for the inspiration, Milarc.

Blasphemy! How dare you use non-star was music on a teaser trailer!?
I agree with Ricky.
Actually a trailer editing competition might be fun. We could do it for each of the films.
