I think the reason the dialogue delivery sounds bad to you guys is mostly due to fact the levels are so low and the dialogue is not really in the context with the atmosphere so much. That might not make sense, but to me it does. I think once the audio problem is rectified you'll find the acting more believeable.

keith seems to be the only one concerned with the audio :P

EDIT:

Zap, the CG that doesn't look quite right is as someone pointed out, the xwing in the first shot dramatically making a vertical.

The one turret shot, the lighting is off and the shadows give that away, plus the motion of it is not believable.

The tie fighter blowing up looked too much like a video game, and the one nut out of the explosion makes it more comical and distracting.

And the tunnel sequence just reminded me of Broken Allegiance, but that is more of a personal critique wink

Hope that helps

Which means everything else is pretty much spot on!

The TIE fighter that blows up: The textures just seemed too "clean", too shiny for a TIE,

You make a good point, and I am trying my best to find a good solid middle ground. First keep in mind that the Empire likes everything nice, clean and shiny. Check out the SE of ANH and you'll see spic-n-span TIEs docked in the hangar. Get 'em out into space, especially in ROTJ, and they do appear a lot grungier, presumably because they've seen a great deal of battle by that point.

Since Revelations takes place pre-ANH, I'm inclined to go with the style we see in Episode IV.

and aslo - after it blows up, there's a nut that flys out of the explosion that looks horrible

While "horrible" is a fair bit of hyperbole, the lack of charring is all too visible to me as well. This I chalk up to a problem I had with material settings in my 3D program (MAX, for those wondering). I have since figured out a workaround, so the debris is nice and blackened at the detonation point.

The AT-ST that creeps past the landing ship at about 1'30" seems to have a bit of a limp

Admittedly this was also tough, as the AT-ST sometimes has a smooth gait and other times has a more "stompy" walk. I chose the "stomp" route.

Crunchy...there were two others...I swear!!! :P

Besides, that's what I do. hehe. I have a very sensitive ear. 12 years of violin will do that to you...and 5 years in the music business...well..lets just say I hear EVERYTHING. It made mixing RoN a nightmare for me cause I wanted it to sound as good as I could make it on what little mixing experience I have.

Considering I'm a trooper in Revelations, well..I have some stake in the film so I do wanna see it be the most awesome fan film yet. Granted, don't we all? happy

Well you wouldn't be the first to say that :} - surely it should remind you of Star Wars in general!? - fast chases through tight spaces is a common theme in the canon, let alone any other fan films.

Hopefully, in the final movie, any such similarity will be as trivial to the audience as it is to me, since that section is a very small part of a much bigger chase through an environment not yet portrayed in any previous SW fan film or original! happy

HanJones

I agree with you on the big suck part of the release "Spring 2005" The producer got very fired up when I posted that release date, and it is going to be tight.. I wish we were further along, but that is one of the reasons why we are looking for more people to help out and get it done.
Spring 2005 is going to be tough to hit, but that is the drop dead date. We will do all we can

VERY, nice. Bad Compression, and the Audio needs some work.

One Question though, were you making the sabers episode 2ish on purpose?

The CG looks great.. and Im sure your story rocks too! But the choreography looks bland.

Nonetheless, I cant wait for its release!

Spring 2005?

What happened to the TFN submission guidelines?

In a thread a few weeks ago niennumb1 gave an update on his film and TheRealFennShya gave this responce
"It is our policy that we want to see something as close to a final cut, if not *the* final cut, before we'll make a decision to host a film or not. It even says in the Submission FAQ that We only accept films that are within two months of completion. In addition, we only review films that have included a significant portion of completed footage, or have offered a way to provide completed footage. A simple trailer is not enough to judge your film by. It's been that way ever since I signed on a year ago. It was no different for any other film that's been submitted, so why should it be different for you?"

What gives?

I know it's your site to do with as you please but why run one guy through the ringer and let another slide on in?

"So why should it be different for" Revelations?
I suppose Revelations looks more marketable by the effects alone.

Seems to me what's good for the goose should be good for the gander.

You shouldn't criticize someone until you walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

Pretty simple answer, Foamy-

Revelations was accepted before that rule went into effect. The teaser trailer has been done and hosted on TFN for over a year. That rule now applies to all new fan films, and I think it's a good one. Way too many filmmakers drop their fan projects before completing them, and this way it makes TFN's job a lot easier.

Keith,

I agree with you that some of the audio is less than perfect, however you gotta keep in mind that this was done in very rushed 3 days for a convention... We mixed it with a full range application in mind (ie. the convention sound system - not an audigy or equivlent), where it sounded amazing. Computer-esque sound systems kinda mask MANY sounds and make audio levels seem out of place when compared to higher end systems, thats just the nature of the equipment. It will be remixed in a post production studio (not the directors basement)for final release. At this point any dialouge audio we had was recorded on location...(and sadley not much is gonna be usable because of location ambiances). We EQ'ed/compressed dialogue where we could for a quick fix, but 99.9% of the 3 days were devoted to sound design. I'm pushing for complete ADR before the final release...

Considering the above, I think it came out remarkable... Kudo's to the whole Revelations Team!
