Halloween Nightmare
The Nightmare has arrived on TFN FanFilms. Gary Mongar's Halloween fan film is now showing.
Michael Myers is back! The knife-wielding maniac has returned to his hometown of Haddonfield to ravage the quiet neighborhood with terror and bloodshed. When The Shape takes a particular interest in an unsuspecting family, all Hell breaks loose.

Well, I wasn't able to get the whole file to DL, it stopped at the part where the father got home. I wish I could see more of it. I'm the same about Halloween, I'm a big fan as well. I dunno if it's my second favorite, but the original John Carpenter story is pretty chilling. The only problem that I have with this film is that the car scenes take way too long. But otherwise from what I've seen, I like it. I wonder when Halloween 9 will go into pre-production. I hope they make it better than the other few sequels.

Watched it...it had maybe one point that made me jump a little, but due to lots of scenes where you totally could not see what was happening and the unconvincing acting from the children, I wasn't that impressed...
A good work, to be sure, but nothing spectacular. Jason looked rather good...and the twist at the end was rather inventive
So yeah, keep up the good work.

I'm having trouble with the download as well. These IGN servers are free...but what a pain. They are not working well with HTTP requests.
I will have the work around up tomorrow.

RE: Halloween Nightmare
Awesome Film!! Vary good suspense!! Your use of Camera angles & lighting was vary creative!! There were parts of the film that looked like they were shot on actual film & not DV!! Good job on the cinematography. The the Camera blurs, I know can't be worked around I know because my camera does the same thing. Your wife & kids all did a good job.
Nice work on the tracking of the digital knife in that shot (you know the shot I'm talking about)
I think the film had a lot of depth to it. I felt closterfobic at times expessually with the 4x3 screen ratio.
Good Work, Awesome film!!!

RE: Halloween Nightmare
After the first 9 minutes I was done. I'm sorry. But honestly, it was just too long and drawn out for me. I didn't feel any suspense. I felt bored.
The music was mix was good though. But I can't comment on anything beyond the 9 minutes.

RE: Halloween Nightmare
Well, I am glad that the film is finally up. Thanks, Azeem.
This film was originally done just as a fun little project to do with my kids. It wasn't made to be viewed by anyone other than family and friends, but after the kids asked me if I was going to put it on the net, I figured why not?
The film is actually suppose to start off slow, not really showing anything until The Shape makes his move. I was going for an eerie feeling of not being able to see the killer until things started happening. A lot of films now seem to show too much too fast as far as slasher flicks go. I guess I was shooting for more of an 'old school' fan film.
For me personally, I used this film to work on my use of camera movement and angles which I unfortunately didn't do with my past films.
For those of you that finish the film, I hope you enjoy it and I look forward to hearing your comments.

JediTAC's OFFICIAL REVIEW: HALLOWEEN NIGHTMARE"
* * * WARNING: SPOILERS WITHIN * * *
A valiant effort from the production team that brought us JANGO. Michael Myers is back ... and this time,
he doesn't care
who
he stalks.
There seems to be a recent surgence in "slasher" FanFilms (Friday the 13th, Halloween, etc.) Mongarfilms'
Halloween:Nightmare
falls well within the genre. A fun project, to be sure . . . an ode to a classic film of it's time.
I very much enjoyed the opening title sequence ... VERY
Halloween-esque
. The transition form the pumpkin tothe skull, in my opinion, was right on the money.
There is a definite art to creating a horror/suspense film ... much of it has to do with the editing and transitions from scene to scene - as well as the suggestive nature of the various shot compositions. In this respect, I found many of the shots held a bit long in terms of trying to instill a sense of suspense and shock value. Granted, most of us are familiar with the
Halloween
films and what they involve. Nevertheless, duplicating a similar style and effect is not an easy task.
For example, the scene where the girl looks out her window and sees "The Shape" looking up at her from the yard. (Again, an ode to, perhaps, one of the single best shots fromt he original "Halloween" film). Unfortunately, and as much as I love that effect, the shot of Myers in the yard was held simply too long to effectively instill the sense of "creepiness" I believe the director was lookign for. The following "where'd he go" shot was pretty much expected at that point.
Another very important element to successfully pulling off a genere such as this is the acting. As for the portrayal of "The Shape" himself, the actor pulled it off fairly well. (I will say that the "mask" itself was fantastic ... very nicely dressed-up to reflect the opriginal). Unfortunately, I did not feel as strongly about the performances of the other characters. As an example ... the scene where Myers suprises the "mother" after her shower . . . it appeared as though the mother was nearly
expecting
and was equally
expecting
the trachiotomy that was to follow. There was no sense of panic, fear or desparation whatsoever. The same can be said for the child actors . . . it seemed more like a game to them than the sheer terror of The Boogyman coming to get them.
As for the sound quality ... in my opinion, thee was too much "dead space" throughout the film. In addition, in the scenes where there was dialogue, the sound was almost "too" crisp and empty ... absent some suggestive background noise or music to accompany them.
Lastly, and understanding the "dark/shadow nature" of the genre and attempted effect, much of the second half of the film was simply "too dark" too see what was going on. Perhaps some creative lighting (with a blue "nighttime" tint) could have given the ffect of night and shadow while still allowing the audience to clearly view the action.
I did like the "twist" ending for the film. I actually had to watch that part twice to "get it" - as the scene was suggestive of ac ouple of different ideas.
IN CONCLUSION:
Again, pulling off this particular genre of film is not an easy task my any means. In many ways, it is more difficult than pulling off a Star Wars FanFilm - in terms of the style of editing, sound design and cinematography. Nevertheless, I applaud Mongarfilms for the effort and presentation of
Halloween: Nightmare
. Michael Mysers has been and always will be one of my favorite horror film characters . . . and it was certainly enjoyable seeing someone bring him to the FanFilm screen in this manner.
To the Mongarfilms Team I would offer the following words of contructive encouragement . . . . . . KEEP AT IT. Take the opinions, insight and suggestions you will receive from this project, and utilize them to continue your filmmaking development on similar projects. I, for one, would love to see another "Halloween" FanFilm in the future . . . or better yet, in the spirit of Freddy v Jason, let's pit two of the most formidible shashers against each other . . . Jason v. Michael Myers.

Is the zip file working for everyone?
This is going to be our work around for the stall files. I'm going to try and convert all the movie files to .zip. We have found, so far, the servers will download the complete file and will not stall out.

RE: Halloween Nightmare
I felt that this dragged on just a bit too much. The scene while in the car seemed to take forever.
I also would really suggest either buying, renting or building a steady cam rig. I think a lot of the shots (intro in particular) could benefit from being a bit more stablized.
Also, it was very dark. And when shooting in such low light, I would suggest to turn off your automatic focus, as a lot of the time, the camera can't see what to focus on, like it did in this movie. Also, the dialogue didn't seem loud enought to me, but great use of the original music, very spooky.
The acting could have been better, but I know it's hard to work with children, and I do understant that this wasn't really supposed to leave the audience of your family. All-in-all, I'd give it one thumb up.

RE: Halloween Nightmare
It was good. I would have tried to fit all the same material into 10 minutes or less if at all possible. The editing was ok, however I would've added more light to the movie, got some sound effects from Braxtan
, and used more shock factor in the music.
Also, close ups of faces were not here much, and the camera was shaky. BUT, it's good to see a fanfilm of halloween.
Keep it up
