do we actually have to edit it?

Of course you do, unless you plan on doing in-camera editing, and even that counts.

Prize idea:

Build a lightsaber. Spray paint it gold, put it on a stand with a plaque, and mail it to the winner.

A custom-lathed lightsaber trophy. Not for prop use, but just the hilt on a plaque and "2004 TFN Lightsaber Choreography Contest - 1st Place" engraved on a metal plate attached to the base.

Then, smaller ones for second and third place.

But then, that's not really something that can be distributed amongst the cast and crew . . . . hmm . . .

What if all the finalists got a . . . no, we all pretty much have our own DVD burners . . .

T-shirts are looking pretty good to me. I don't know why, maybe because it's just one of the easiest things presented so far.

Plaques aren't a horrible idea. You could even use the scaled replicas and like.. glue em on. If ya raise enough money... you could prolly make one for everyone involved.. presuming no ones planning any "Burly Duels."

... ya get it? wink ... as appose to Burley Brawl?? grin

-- Edit --

Then again, I guess if you wanna be technical about the analogy... you'd still only need to give plaques to two people grin

Battle of Correlian Fields maybe better? Hoths Deep? thinking

Eh.. you get my point.

Hooray, I always wanted my vid to appear as a 7 second looping icon! grin

Also, my only challenge for making a second fight clip is a location that isnt a field/forrest! I'd fight in my house but things could get broken.

Location scouting is hard.

I'm going to start filming my entry this weekend.

I do have a question though. Would it be okay to have 2 fights going at once? More specifically, a fight with sabers and a fist to fist fight?

Guys, guess what? I had to work the morning shift at work. Morning news cast. It's 3:44 a. m. I got here at 3:00 a.m. Reality seems somewhat dreamlike when you've only had two hours sleep. Humm. My eyes keep rolling back into my head as I sit here in the news room. Then NBC feeds a package down the wire. "EHHHHH...AHHHHH....AHHHHHHHH AHHHHHH."(similar to a modem dial up sound, but at 150db. Very loud. My eyes pop back. Message becoming incoherent. Is that how you spell incoherent? Brain does not function at 3:00 a.m. World becoming more dreamlike.

OH, yeah, about the lightsaber competition, I want my prize to be Carmen Electra. I would like this very much. Thank you for you consideration. Sleep tight my maties. Is that how you spell maties? Humm. You know, like a pirate says, "Arghhh, me maties." I will ponder this as I fight the gripping hand of sleep. Must fight it. Must not give in. Yo-Yo-Ma! I will fight. I will fight.

Well, obviosuly you're not supposed to show what you're working on. That's what this thread is for. Discussion regarding the contest. Besides, we still got 4 months here.

Would it be okay to have 2 fights going at once? More specifically, a fight with sabers and a fist to fist fight?

As was mentioned in the rules, we really want people to shy away from using prolonged sections of non-saber fighting because it makes entries difficult to compare. It is a lightsaber choreography contest, after all. I would have to say that having two fighters who do not use sabers at all (even if there's another fight happening) would not jive with this rule. I'd personally go so far as to say that we should definitely not see over 1/4 as much fist fighting as saber fighting. Especially hand-to-hand. Punching somebody during a saber fight is one thing. Loosing sabers and engaging in a martial arts brawl is what we're trying to avoid.
