Difference keying?
I think this has been metioned before, but i didnt remember the exact term for it, so when i searched, i found nothing..
anyway, i was wondering what this is called, When you have an object or person with a certian background, lets say a room, then, you have another layer behind that object thast exactly the same, only without the object..
XXXXCXXXX
XXXXXXXXX
C=the object
what is it called when it atomatically keys out the X's because C is the only thing thats different?
Did that make sence?

You're trying to make a difference matte.
It works, in theory, but it never works out right.

You won't find an automatic difference keyer, you'll still have a lot of manual masking to do.
And like that...he's gone.

Funk said it right.. AE does have this option, but it never works as well as it should. I've tried it, never had any luck with it, though.

RE: Difference keying?
I got it close one time. The problem is lighting, focus, subtle changes in the background, etc, etc, etc. There are so many things that can go wrong it's hard to achieve a good result. I did mind in a barn with a static background, locked focus, and a simple shot of me walking through the shot. The keyer went nuts because of all the tiny things I can't see but were picked up by the camera. I have yet to try it again, but when I do I'm going to make sure my scene is
extremely
well-lit, and that there is no possible way for the background to change at all. Plus applying a matte to the non-static layer will make a world or difference as well. The less there is to compare the less problems you'll have. Good luck with it - if you get something to work please post it!

How was the lighting? Most home camcorders are prone to having noise on the film, making the difference matte keyer useless.
And like that...he's gone.

It
can
be done in AE as well. I just don't know the settings off the top of my head.
Have fun.

Oh man, I hope it is as good as the MSPaint tutorial was.
This would be helpful, but I think I'll stick with just masking the background photo for now. I don't have any masking to do quite yet.. but I will very soon, so I'll be curious in the near future.
If you figure something out, don't hesitate to spread the word.

Well, get rid of all the phaser sound effects and the quick zooms, and you stand a chance.
