This thread will never die!
Experimenting a bit more with the Episode IV style "white with barely-there color," as seen with Luke on the Falcon.
Overall I think the barely-there color isn't necessarily the way to go, but I do think there might be something in having layers of both screen and linear dodge at different intervals, and I will test further with that.

I'm almost done with the Rotoing of RvB2 so that when the Rotoing Project begins, I have something ready.
Dibs on the Dual Saber Part.

The cut isn't going to stay the same in the final RvB2 release. I wouldn't devote too much time there rotoing it right now man.
And to jump into the debate of how big a glow should be/how much color it has, I think it all depends on what the sabers are against. Generally in darker scenes, you can get away with a larger, more saturated glow. That's the time to really go crazy with it. In a brightly lit environment, that same look doesn't work so well. You have to consider what it would actually look like in camera. Take a look at the lights that exist in the scene and check out how big their glows are for reference.

I am aware that the film isn't going to be EXACTLY the same. I'm just getting ahead a bit. And also doing it kinda as a Demo Reel/Personal Project thingy.

We mean like, we're going to go do some reshoots in a couple weeks.
Besides, rotoing a much smaller version (RvB2=720p) is going to mean you have to be tweaking it all for accuracy anyway when the real material is provided, so... we appreciate the enthusiasm, but don't get burned out before it even begins.

Ahh nuts... I forgot about the size.
Well.. At least I can do it three times as fast, as now I know how the footage is and the fact that it will be bigger.
Thanks for the advice .

plus, i don't think it's gonna be a competition as to who's gonna rotoscope fastest or finish first.
we should all just wait until Ryan and Brandon post how they want it to be organized.

But isnt the 3d clone wars a different medium used, so of course the sabers would look a little different. I know for me, when I make a 3d character use a lightsaber, I dont treat it like a live action film. I mean, look at lego star wars the game. The saber glow I think fits the style

I'm speechless. both because that poor star wars kid STILL can't get a rest, and because of the incredibly bad effects. Wow.
