A thread of mine that linked to a fan trailer on YouTube was locked with a warning about what can be "promoted" on this site. Why does it seem ok to post links to physical downloads of fan trailers or music videos but not YouTube? Is there something specific that Lucasfilm has said about that?

Thanks.

Haha, please remember that Lucas Film does not run this place.

I am not sure as of why You Tube videos are never shown here, however, this forum in general is without permission of Lucas Arts, and they really have nothing to do with us, they only enspire us. grin

In short YouTube has a lot of stuff on it that we can't have here because of copyright laws. We were recently told to edit Star Wars links from that site for those reasons. If we allow it we open up an even bigger door for infringement charges and such. It was something the admins and mods decided as a whole and we have to abide by that.

You're not in trouble for the thread, just please refrain from the Star Wars YouTube links in the future. Also feel free to PM one of us mods about any issue in here and we'll be happy to explain things. happy

I have been around long enough to know that Lucasfilm does not run this place. That wasn't my question. There was a specific statement made in the locking of my thread and it is that to which I am questioning. So, thanks for wasting time posting about nothing. happy

Thank you. I am still confused by the fact that similar stuff is linked on here all the time and not locked, but YouTube links to similar (or the same) content is... seems like a policy that could be changed based on specific content.

The video I linked to was just a saga music video, using video from Star Wars and music from other movies. It is not a for-profit effort... anyway, I won't post any more YouTube links. sad

That's a bummer. YouTube is probably the best way for folks who don't have webspace to post their clips, etc. It's really annoying that the best acceptable option is YouSendIt links and such. Don't they keep things fairly PG-13 over there, anyway? I mean if you go looking, sure you can find some bad language or violence, etc. But isn't that out of TFN's liability at that point?

And what about Google Video? Same embargo?

Now hold on, let's make something clear.

You can't link to copyrighted Star Wars material on YouTube. We're talking about sections of the Star Wars movies, Clone Wars episodes, or other copyrighted material. Even if it's redubbed or recut.

Linking to a movie you shot yourself, or which otherwise contains no copyright infringement or TOS violations, is still fine, AFAIK.
