Did you see the resemblance in that brief shot? That footage is from like 5 years ago lol. wink

Also, am I to believe that you have in your possession a full-length version of the Raiders of the Lost Ark adaptation?

I wish, I got an e-mail from two of the three saying it was okay to use some older news clips that were uploaded a while back (hence the cruddy quality) but they also said they'd shoot me a full-res version of a newer trailer when it was done so that's good news.

Maybe you should've included more statements from other people than just Ryan. I know he is "the man", but it would be more interesting to hear (and SEE) other people commenting too. Get a statement from someone at Atom Films (or even Lucasfilm, why not) would enrich the project a great deal.

I agree - I thought about trying to set up more interviews (asked one or two people actually) but time constraints for the class prohibited any extra audio recording and such so it didn't work out. I was really pleased to get Ryan's segment in there though because a bunch of people at my college recognized RvD from ebaumsworld and other sites. Had several "I've seen that one!" and "that's a cool fight" comments. tongue

Nicely done! It was a good introduction to what fan films are. You spoke clearly and at a good pace so you were easy to understand.

Perhaps a backlight on yourself in the future to pull you away from the background and give you a bit of definition? happy

Congratulations on your documentary!

Very nice man. Good job focusing not only on Star Wars. Ryan's voiceover was good too. Very entertaining.

Yeah, a backlight would definately help for your next adventure. Also, I'm curious about you light setup for this project, it looks like only one keylight, straight on your face. It makes you look very flat.

Also, I did a documentary made entirely without narration. I tried to creatively edit each segment of my interviews to act as one coherent thought. It worked out pretty well I think.

Wow, I completely forgot that Darth Moby was in there... caught me off guard to see it. Nice seeing iSpy, too, though it's not as much of a fanfilm, per se, just a genre film. Ah, well, I'm not complaining about our fifteen seconds of fame in there happy Very nicely done! (Though I do agree about the lighting for you... off-centered lighting with a fill light and a back light seems boring and textbook, but it's textbook for a reason.)

Excellent work DV. Only one thing got to me and that's when you started naming off fanfilm after fanfilm during the segment with no backing visuals to support them. Other than that, very good stuff and very interesting to watch.

I think that might be because he didn't have permission to show the video.

Great work. I really enjoyed it, especially the copious references to this site. wink As others have said, this documentary is perfect for introducing people to the vast world of fan films.

Actually I used something similar to this:

    - Window on my left (screen right) with blinds to control unusually-bright afternoon
    - Lamp clamped to ceiling with "daylight" bulb
    - Golden-like posterboard for extra color on my face (didn't work as well as I hoped)
    - Mirror on floor to bounce light under my eyes (darn allergies tongue )

Now, all that said I was really trying to get a "smooth" lighting setup in our otherwise mostly dark basement. However the black shirt combined with no backlight killed me and I didn't notice until later how off it looked. Note to self for future. wink

Yeah, that was the only reason I didn't use those there - I would have loved to insert more clips and such but I couldn't contact some of the people I wanted to so I started naming films I could have added. happy

    doh! tongue

As for the footage, I literally ran out of time just e-mailing people that I wanted to get stuff from within the last week or so of the class. Unfortunately I wasn't able to include everything I would have liked to so please don't take it personally. happy

Thanks for all the replies y'all - I appreciate the feedback. happy
