Yeah, I was super excited for Episode III because the trailer made the movie look awesome. However, it turned out to be not so good. If the Clone Wars trailer is that awful, just imagine what the actual movie will be like.

I was under the impression that the new CGI Clone Wars coming out in August was a TV series not a movie for the big screen however you guys are making it sound otherwise. What gives?

I'm pretty sure it was being touted as a TV series as well. Then it was just suddenly sprung upon me that it's a theatrical release. You had two shots at showing the Clone Wars, George. Face it. You failed.

They decided they could make more money releasing the "pilot" episode theatrically. So they're going to.

Since when? The other show was excellent (considering its caliber). Award-winning even, though this isn't always saying much.
And I must say, I hope that the new series is not part of the Saturday morning line-up.
Looking at the entry on IMDB, it's "Rated PG for sci-fi action violence throughout, brief language and momentary smoking."
Admit it. The second half has you curious.
And if by those two shots you actually meant Episode 2 & 3, well. He had three shots.

Not in the least. 'Brief language' will just be an occasional "damn" I should think, and smoking, well, I don't think they're gonna be bustin' out Marlboros, it'll just be the hookahs and funny-looking things we've seen in seedy parts of Coruscant and Tatooine.

Is there someone here who can tell me how to make this more smokey than sandy? I'm using Particular in AE.
I want it to be something like the 'Expecto Petronum' and 'Avada Kedavra' effects from Harry Potter.

What happens if you just apply your favorite blurs? (If not within the particle generator itself, then to the Comp in a separate Comp?) If the blur makes it too fady for your taste, layer a second one on top of it and maybe Screen or somethin'.

Why don't you try sticking with what you've got, kind of layering it up, and blurring it a bit? Maybe a vector blur.
EDIT: Damnit AB.

Generally, the solution to that look is more particles.
A lot more.
You may max out in the particles per second, but if you are happy with the settings, you could duplicate the layer and change the random seed on one of them. Then, yeah, try some blurs and things. With an effect like that, some echo might work as well to help smooth it over.

Alright, so I tried what you guys said. Each pic is made out of a comp with two comps of the particle comp, with the top one set to Screen.
...with Glow, Fast Blur of 3 and 15
...with Glow, CC Vector Blur; Natural Type, Amount of 10
...with Glow, Fast Blur of 3 and 15, CC Vector Blur; Natural Type, Amount of 10
...with Glow, Fast Blur of 3 and 15, CC Vector Blur; Direction Center Type, Amount of 10
And what Ryan said, with One comp; Fast Blur of 3, Adj. layer with fast blur of 50 set to Screen, another Adj. layer with colorbalance.
A hard one this one. I think it's all too blurry. I keep thinking maybe it would be better to make it shoot out with velocity, instead of just being blown away from the emitter with a wind, because then maybe it would leave a trail that can fade off really quick. Then it won't look as sandy. And why haven't I tried that yet? I don't know. And don't you just hate long posts?
