there is nothing about this picture or concept that is not horrifying in every way
With that said, I totally had a crush on the tomboy sports-playin' redhead girl as a wee lad. I think she may have well been the first redhead to draw my attention. Ah, youth.

Ref for that first one:
I never really liked anything about the 90's except for the advertising. 1990's kids advertising rocked especially hard. Case in point.
EDIT: ooh, looks like I missed all the little signatures. Eh, you guys all hafta sign it now.
EDIT 2: Finished Snow Crash. Just now understood the meaning of Geekza. Hadn't ever heard the word "za" before. I seriously couldn't ever figure out why you guys did the whole pizza parlor motif. Well, guess now I know.

The Day the Earth Stood Still
I saw that trailer a couple days ago, it isn't anything like the original which was directed by two future Star Trek directors (Richard Wise and Nicholas Meyer).
I got back from Wall-E this afternoon. I thought it was alright. I thought the visuals were top-notch; however, I do think the plot and story suffered from a lack of dialogue at the beginning, it was a bit frustrating not to know what was going. However, it was nice not to have anyone's feet by my head.
EDIT: Two pages in a row, at the top!

That's kinda the point. The film transcends dialog. Kinda the whole point of a LOT of Pixar films.

Except that according to the page you linked, that was an 80's commercial rather than a 90's commercial.

Nicholas Meyer did a DVD commentary with Wise because he's a fan of the movie, and I guess because of the tenuous sci-fi/Star Trek connection between them, but he didn't direct it - he was six years old when The Day The Earth Stood Still was released.
The trailer looks interesting enough, though it seems more like The Day After The Earth Stood Still. At least they did a quick Gort reference at the very end - if there's no Gort and no Klaatu Barada Nikto in this thing, then I'm out.

Funny thing: neither was in the original short story. Though since they're taking the title from the original movie, presumably that's the source material.

The Day the Earth Stood Still
They had me at Jennifer Connelly. It does look sorta interesting though, I may have to check it out. That music is pretty sweet, too.

This is what I liked about Wall-E. I never thought of the story as suffering. If you're paying attention, you should be able to pick up on the history pretty quickly, and follow what the characters are thinking and feeling the entire time. Considering the simple nature of the story, I think if they'd written tradiational dialog out for Wall-E, EVE and the rest, then it would've really suffered. I'll take interpretive chatter over mindless babble any day.
While I was in Chicago today, I overheard a couple people talking about it. One guy said something to the effect of "Biggest waste of time I've ever had at a theater", and another, who'd also had a very busy weekend (I know this cuz he was sitting behind me for an hour on the train w/ some other chatty folks), said he fell asleep.
And so I mentally placed the both of them in a couple of hover chairs quibbling over the regularity of their virtual golf lessons, and realized I really don't care what they think.
The film is art.
EDIT: I took a couple of hours last night and made myself a demo reel: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XdY57YkNIEE
I kinda like it, though it does need some tweaking I think. Something's not right about it.
However, it is useful for those various photoshop images I don't really have any other good way of showcasing to non-Deviant Art folks.

ok, I've been really busy, but finally got around to finishing this FIRST DRAFT Captain America shield...
It sucks, I almost didn't wanna post the pics, probably shouldn't as I am sure nobody here even really cares, but I said I would, so here is the first shield, I wanted to give it a technical look, but it came out looking more like a Mayan, death star disk... It's hard to share your failures, here are mine.
It has too many layers, the next shield will be finished very soon, and I will place it in the form of a teaser 2011 poster. So.. laugh away...
EDIT: I was also wondering, with those pictures, does anybody know why in Premier pro 1.5 when I import footage and then export it looks kinda like the anti-aliasing is off??? I exported the frames using Nero... but I notice the problem on the footage, perhaps it's how I capture, but I assume it's in my exporting....

Cool reel there, Vapes. Left a comment on YT for ya... the "Defiance" poster is a bit of a hack, especially since there are things online that do it in a snap (though you probably didn't use one, it just looks bad on you to put that in your reel).
And when were you gonna make vector art of me? :P Maybe of Lance and Fletch...
