I'm unimpressed by the new MacBook Pros; definitely feel like a step back in the pro market. No more matte*, no more full DVI port, no more firewire 400 (if I want to daisy chain my hard drives through 800 like I do, how do I go about capturing video to those drives? I would have to buy a stupid express card, and I shouldn't). On the other hand, the 13-inch MacBooks took a nice step up. I wouldn't have a problem buying one to replace my dying MacBook Pro, because it would surely run my few games I do play under Windows.

*This isn't the biggest dealbreaker for me, as I have been quite impressed with the glossy displays on the aluminum iMacs. But glossy on a portable is admittedly more annoying than a stationary desktop. Having no choice sucks too.

Oh, and regarding the tablet Mac, seeing as Apple officially endorses the ModBook, I doubt they'll do one themselves. The only thing I think is missing is a portrait mode. Mod one of the new MacBooks with the new graphics processor and I'll buy that in a heartbeat grin

Concerning the new macbooks/pro's, and their obvious "cons":

No touch screen: I could see this working on the macbook air, not the pro model. The pro model is aimed at gamers and video/photo/music editing, in which a touch screen would just be a "bag of hurt". The iPhone works great with touch, but I just don't see it working on a pro-level notebook.

No matte display: Concerning the new LED displays, I don't see this as a huge issue. There might be some SLIGHT discoloration issues, but even CRT's have "glossy" screens, and people still think they are the best for color tuning. I don't think the new glossiness is an issue. It's been present on the iMacs for quite a while, and there's not been any problems there.

No blu-ray: Well, how many of you actually use blu-ray discs anyways? I have 6 discs. All of them PS3 games. I might some day buy some films on BD, but currently, downloading them on iTunes is quite pleasing.

No new "cheap model": This one annoys me too. One of the critical factors for not buying a mac is the entry price on their laptops. This wasn't changed now either.

No matte-finish cinema display: considering they still sell the old ones, I don't see this as an issue, since the new ones are mainly launched as a macbook asset.

The old cinema displays outright suck compared to the competition, both in their tech specs and price point. They're terribly outdated.

This is true. I have a 21" cinema display(the white pre-aluminum ones) and a samsung 22". I use both, but the cinema display is secondary.

Ugh.
To keep with the theme, a glossy screen would be a dealbreaker for me. I hate those things.

There's still a couple more months before I'll know if I have to get one, but some of the complaints I've been seeing aren't making me feel any better about it.

In other news... sigh.

I'm in the same boat with the screens - that was the biggest *sigh* moment of the new lineup. I love the steps they're trying to take, but matte screens are just so much easier to use on a laptop.

To be fair, with Shadowcat at least they eventually traded up. Not that the movie itself turned out decently, but hey.

Good point about April. The subsequent movies were a huge step down from the first in many respects, but I really don't see how they could let Judith Hoag get away. Paige Turco may have had a few more "model-pretty" points going for her, but Hoag's performance is so warm and shockingly natural that she helps sell the Turtle and Splinter characters just by being in the same room with them.

Rick McCallum loves you!

Funny on the Glossy. I was a "Glossy sucks" guy until I was pretty much forced to get a glossy due to the model I wanted didn't have anythign else, and I'm now a convert. I find matte screens unsharp and has no real blacks (because due to the fact they are matte, they suck in all light into a diffuse reflectivity. The glossy screens only reflect any light exactly in their mirror direction, which you can avoid)

Yea I thought Doug Jones, the guy who played the role physicaly in all the films finally got to say the lines - he also did the voice for the two 'meh' animated films. David Hyde Pierce - aka Niles form Frasier - did the voice in the frist film. No big loss IMO.

Being a Marvel nut you'd think Vapes would remember Doug Jones being 'riped off' the voice acting role of Silver Surfer in the second F4 movie.

I'm not into religion, but amen.

Besides, matte screens are diffusing reflections, glossy LED displays are so strong in light, most reflections are cancelled anyways. Now stop being retarted, and join the new school :P

In my defense, back when I was considering glossy/matte they didn't have fancy LED stuff you kids do these days. We just had a bunch of little gnomes running about with flashlights.
