Whoever made it, my note would be that the cityscape in the deep background looks sharper than the crane in the foreground. It should be softened to match.

I also noticed the softness, perhaps the for ground should be sharpened a bit and the cityscape softened, with a lil more for ground contrast.

So this weekend Phi and I tested our rabbit ears with our TV's fancy new ATSC tuner. Holy crap. OVER THE AIR DIGITAL TV is AWESOME!!! But we only get 2 channels - the french and english versions of CBC. We get 10 more channels of analog gunk.

Thanks to MPEG-2, you can actually stuff about 6 480i sub-channels, or 2 1080i sub-channels into a single analog NSTC 6 MHz channel. The broadcast frequencies are all VHF (standard rabbit ears), and the broadcasters will not have to invest in new power amplifiers. The picture quality is crystal clear - and at least as good as anything I've seen over my parent's satellite receiver.

For once, I'm envious of people in the United States. The analog TV cut-off in the US is 2009, whereas it's 2011 in Canada. It can't get here fast enough.

Hey guys, Geekza in twenty. This week we'll be talking about Wall E and Presto, (there was no show last week), my experiences thus far at my new job, how awesome Californication is, Comic-Con, my entry video for MTV's new show "Engine Room," and hanging out at the Vasquez Rocks, popular location for such shows as Star Trek and Jay and Silent Bob Strike back.

See ya there!

Just saw Wall-E, finally.
I'm so happy.

They get a bonus for having Matthew Wood as the sound supervisor, or whatever his formal title was. The sounds were amazing, along with everything else.

When I get to writing about it in my blog, I'm gonna try and wrap my head around the message(s) they were attempting to convey here. It sort of seemed like they were having trouble picking which one to focus on most.

Great film, though. The short about the magician was pretty cute, too.

Lo-rez file is still the one up, the high rez will be up sometime shortly, if it matters to ya. (Just better audio quality, same show.)

I'll be seeing Wall-E next week, from all the reviews it seems to be pretty good.

The one thing that is odd about the movie is that the budget for it is 180 million, only 5 million less than Indy.

I finished 24 season 6, last week. That was amazingly good/intriguing/intense/etc. I started season 4 after that and will soon be getting the rest of the seasons. I have seasons 4-6 already.

Just thought it was funny that people, not here, just around the web, actually thought the script was really a draft by Bay... When I asked, he said this about the article:

"This is one hundred percent made up - screw the haters on the internet.

Bay"

Oops, I bought up Bay... grin

I loved Wall-e. I work at a place called PizzaPizza and you've no idea how many times I've said this "I want a Pizza Tree..." since seeing the movie.

Dunno if anyone cares, but here's a cool picture of the Geekza crew at the Vasquez Rocks. (Cloe Z is in it.) (There, that should do it.)

Whabam!

Penitio, pardon my asking, but why is the fact that you work at PizzaPizza a spoiler?

I liked WALL*E, though not as much as I liked The Incredibles. Incidentally, I liked it a hell of a lot more than I like Cars. Car-love just didn't fly for me. Robot-love worked though. I have no idea which Pixar dude said it, but pathos makes good film. And Pixar has always been good at that. Cars just seemed like a huge effort to be goofy.

I enjoyed all of the 2001 references, though it was even more amusing to me that these things flew right of the heads of about 85% of the intended audience, who have never seen 2001. The "message" was a bit preachy, but not overly so, as was the case with Happy Feet, which tried to cover every single cause on the socio-political landscape in one fell swoop.

If I could come up with a tagline that properly described WALL*E it would probably have to be: "WALL*E: Ben Burtt's Wet Dream." Also, if WALL*E is a load lifter does that mean he's friends with C-3P0?

I didn't really understand the use of the live action footage. Actually the bits from the muisicals made sense. It was all the stuff with the Buy'n'Large CEO guy. I guess the premise is, while everyone out there in space is getting fat and losing bone density, they're also turning into cartoon people?

Speaking of plot holes, I know it's just a kid's movie and all, but where did all those cartoon babies come from is no one in space ever gets out of their space chairs or recognizes the fact that other people besides themselves even exist? It'd make for an interesting take on THX-1138, anyway.

All that aside though, I really liked it, and will probably buy it when it comes out on DVD.

EDIT: Fig, that needs to be turned into an awesome 90's kids logo, ala the BK kids. I shall work on that.

It did sort of feel like a THX-like society. Everyone's just sort of consuming for the sake of it, doing their own thing. "Whoa, we have a pool?!?" could easily turn into "Whoa, we have genitals?!?" for John and Mary if they play their cards right. It really wouldn't surprise me.

Then again, the movie would have to take on a rating higher than G if this were the case. And I admire it's charm without needing to push even into the PG-ratings.

Is anyone else hoping they don't do a sequel? I think it sort of wrapped itself up nicely, and since all of the other Pixar sequels seemed a bit unnecessary, I'm sort of hoping they don't go that route here.

It's doing well at the box office though, so we'll see.

I don't think they'll go for a sequel. Toy-Story was nicely open-ended, as was The Incredibles. They both had these sort of "here-we-go-again" endings. But WALL*E, not so much. What would it be about? Somehow, I don't link Disney would ever greenlight "WALL*E: The Quest to Make Cute Robot EVE/WALL*E Hybrid Babies that can be Sold as Plushies." Because that's what we'd eventually arrive at.

I'm waiting on the feature length Luxo film.

From what fantasy world have you recently arrived? Of course Disney would greenlight that. In a heartbeat. They'd have greenlit it first if they could. What money-grab sequel HAVEN'T they greenlit?

Luckily, Pixar has veto power, and Pixar would never allow that to happen.
