I woke up this morning still depressed from TDK, but then I got my notice from iTunes that the final act of "Dr. Horrible" was ready for download! I decided to watch it immediately in order to cheer up.

Man, maybe I'll just go back to bed until tomorrow.

It's funny how things taken totally out of context can sound. I was just flicking around on the freebox and came across a channel showing The Chronicles of Riddick, at the line where Riddick says, "it's been a long time since i've smelled beautiful."
Could be taken in 2 quite different ways.

Saw TDK last night. Some thoughts...
In all other portrayals of the Joker, I've seen an actor playing a clown. In TDK the Joker was a realistic character in his mannerisms who was clearly insane, but also had a maniacal sense of humour, and extraordinary intelligence. I loved the idea that the Joker wasn't afraid of Batman, because he realized that if Batman wasn't willing to kill him, then Batman had no power over him. The Joker didn't care if he was hurt, jailed or pounded upon. Furthermore, the Joker didn't want to kill Batman, because Batman was simply too much fun to torture - Batman could take it.
Batman himself was a remarkable character in this film. While as a viewer it is easy to note who Batman is because we're all in on the secret, from an internal to Gotham point of view, Batman/Bruce Wayne was actually four distinct characters. First off, there was Bruce Wayne's vacuous business and public persona. Secondly, you had Bruce Wayne the shrewd businessman who was responsible for Batman's politics and gadgets. Thirdly, you had the romantic emotionally pathetic Bruce Wayne, who couldn't woo a lady of comparable intelligence no matter how much he would like to... and finally you had Batman - a competent crime fighter and man of action, willing to be whatever symbol Gotham required, and willing to take the falls that no one else could afford.
When I think about the performances and characterization of TDK, I come away thinking it's amazing film. When I start contemplating the logistics, I find that plot-wise it doesn't hold up very well. The amount of resources required by both the Joker and Batman in this film are staggering. The Joker not only required ludicrous amounts of explosive expertise, but a significant number of people, on the order of hundreds, to hang on his every word and to implement his grotesque plans. It is borderline inconceivable that someone as anarchist as the Joker could manage such a large croup of people. Who would follow him? Who could trust him? Sure, they alluded to him using some number of insane henchmen, but it would seem the number of crazies that could actually help is rather limited.
Same goes for Batman's secret identity. Obviously these logistics issues are chronic problem for superhero films... but I still find it odd that they went as far as the did with characterisation, but couldn't reign in a more realistic scope to the technology and action sequences. I guess I'm saying the action was a little too huge for me to take.
So far, we've had three great superhero movies this summer: Iron Man, Hellboy II, and TDK. Is it odd that I think the most logical storyline with the most realistic characters was the one about a demon from hell fighting a bunch of faeries? Personally, I would rank Ron Perlman's and Doug Jones' characterization in Hellboy II right up there with Heath Ledger's... sure, the characters were a little simpler, but they were just as well inhabited. My summary?
Ron Perlman IS Hellboy
Doug Jones IS Abe Sapien
Heath Ledger IS The Joker
and
Robert Downey Jr. IS Robert Downey Jr. IS Tony Stark

A couple of things that stood out to me in The Dark Knight:
Everyone else looked and felt like they were acting. The Joker seemed like a real person who was on the set - not a character. A definitive portrayal of the character.
The whole film felt like a police drama. That, however, makes sense - Batman is a detective, after all.
I especially enjoyed the bit about trying to blackmail Bruce. A multi-billionaire who beats the crap out of street thugs at night is not someone you try to cross. Ever.
Of course, Joker stole a vast amount of money, and Bruce already had vast amounts of money to begin with. I don't think there's a logistical issue there, -Spiff-.
Anyway, a solid film. Probably not the best film of the year, but definitely in the top five so far.
And who doesn't want to see Watchmen now? Huh?

I think my favourite line was the bit between Wayne and Fox:
Wayne: Sonar! Like...
Fox: Like a submarine.
Wayne: ...Right, like a submarine.

But one viewing of TDK was enough for me. There were no "stand up and cheer" moments. Nor were there supposed to be. It wasn't that kind of a film.
I love stand up and cheer moments, and they are one of the only reasons I go to midnight showings for these kinds of movies. Most people at the midnight showing arent afraid of immersing themselves and enjoying the ride of a movie.
As for TDK it did have one of those moments, at least for me and those in my theater. When Gordon comes back. Everyone cheered.

It was the same at mine. Like, you knew it had to happen but you were so happy with how they did it.
The also started cheering when the theater's You're at our theater' bit came up, so they were a little bit excited to be there.

Off Topic of sorts, but..
Just wanted to share, I went outside for a short walk the other night cause I couldn't sleep, around 3a.m. in San Diego.
I saw out of the corner of my eye a bright star, as I turned my head and looked up and over, I saw this AWESOME slow shooting star...within 2 seconds, I coulda swore I heard a sonic boom, I saw that son of a bitch burst into flames upon entering our atmosphere! It was truly one of the most beautiful things I have seen in my entire life!!! It wasn't like what you see it in the movie's, this was really different, it almost looked fake... It didnt look real, but rather cartoonish. I could actually see these pieces breaking away in flames, it didn't fall, but rather kept going straight through the night sky. I could actually see the dark smoke trail behind it. I've seen footage of stuff like this before, and this was WAY more amazing and different. Sureal...
ILM can NOT create something THAT amazing!!! It was just totally unreal, lasted all in all for about 5 seconds. It's just moments like those, no matter how messed up my life seem's to get, for those brief seconds, I understood what life is about. And it makes me thankfull to be alive. It's almost like God himself said, were all alone, I wanna share this with you. It was better then anything I have ever seen. I actually reached up as to try to touch it, that's how close it looked!!! I just stood there for a minute after words in shock and feeling this innerpeice. Then went back home and back to my normal old emo self.

Speaking of strange things, can anybody please tell me what the hell this is???
I actually have this super strange crap on video tape, I will post it soon. It was taken a few years ago, people on the news said it was a rocket, B.S.!!!!! What the hell is it????
It was this strange slow moving light with a trail of smoke, behind it, almost looked like it was spraying something out of it...
It left a rip in the sky that I have never seen before!
Just really strange crap....
EDIT: Thanks for the advice spiff, but I shouldn't have to filter clean cam footage after capture, can you or anybody maybe advise me on how to capture (settings wise) in premier pro 1.5 without it screwing with my interlacing artifacts?

Strangely enough, my parents were telling me about this abnormally bright star they'd seen last night. Sure enough, i looked out and found it. This mother was crazy bright, like, screw the north star kind of bright. But it wasn't moving, or at least didn't appear to be, and was there for at least a few hours. It definitely wasn't a plane or any such thing, but it may not have been a star at all.

It's not a Premiere problem, it's a camera problem. Using a tripod will sort out most of the issues. Switching to a progressive digital camera or a film camera will kill the problem altogether.

Twilight launch at Vandenberg AFB. There used to be a lot more of them when I was a kid. Do a Google search on "Twilight Launch at Vandenberg" and you'll turn up a pile of links, including videos and even a website where you can find out when they're scheduled to do another. If your video was taken in Spetember 2006, then it was a Minotaur rocket. The rocket goes so high the trail is illuminated by the sun which has already moved below the horizon for the viewer. The upper atmosphere winds give it that zigzag pattern.
