Man I didn't even notice that the contest deadline was extended. doh!

Well, at least I've got plenty of post-production time. Which is good.

Well, my choreography session turned into an epic battle of Improvised Choreography between two of my friends who just happened to be around. I was surprised, they actually weren't entirely horrible.

Kind of late in the game, but I found this interesting article/blog post: The Best Swordfight Movies of All Time by Steven Hart. It's all Western flicks: Rob Roy, The Duellists (1977), Empire Strikes Back and The Three Musketeers/The Four Musketeers (1973-4). I may not agree with everything he says but it's definitely food for thought.

Empire definitely was the best fight of the OT. I haven't seen most of what he's talking about. I should see Rob Roy, though. It's been in the corner of my eye for a while.

2) The new maximum compressed file size limit is set to 45 Mb or under. Also, all files have to be QuickTime. This is a standard format that we've always used and we see no reason to deviate. However you do have a choice of either compressing it with Sorenson 3 or H.264. Whichever will help you achieve the 45 Mb or under mark.

Just a question about conversion:

I'm using super to do some conversion tests because I don't know a whole lot about compression, etc., but I didn't see anything about the video size or aspect ratio in the OP.

I just tried converting a video I had that was about 1.61GB and managed to get it down to 75MB, slightly over the limit.

However this was with the original aspect ratio that we shot the film at which was 16:9 and I think 1024x768; or 853:480, I know that's what ResisterOfEvil used when he imported it into AE...

Anyway, I'm just asking if there is a specified aspect ratio and scale size?

Oh, and can someone point to some good resources for learning about video compression and such?

EDIT: Oh, and I'm currently experimenting with 4:3 at 640:480.

Thanks,

LC

There is no limit on the res of the entry because in Quicktime one can easily select "Half Size" under the View option and you can make the aspect ratio 4:3 or 16:9. I know I would prefer widescreen (16:9). The res of the clip really doesn't impact the size of the file after compression, if not at all. It's all in the Data Rate that you use.

Is that the bitrate you're referring to?

The file wasn't actually 75MB at all, I ally stopped it prematurely.

I did a couple more tests, even setting the bitrate down, and I still couldn't make the limit; it was going way over 100MB.

I may make a new thread on it.

So umm... Yeah... I just realized something last night. Even if I do get a fight choreographed and filmed, my computer hasn't been working since mid January, so I don't have a way to edit it, or do the effects. I wouldn't even have a way to get the footage off of the camera.

So I guess I'm out.

... well there's a few other folks who have cancelled because they have they have no camera or team, so any chance you can mail off the footage to one of them?
