I'm considering it, since it's back in L.A. this year.
Not that I expect to understand a word anyone says while I'm there. White papers = head asplode.

Well, the "courses" tend to be easier stuff. Yeah, the "papers" stuff could be a bit high end, but they talk about all sorts of stuff. Since you're in line for buying a Red, lots of color theory stuff should be right up your alley. There might even be Red-specific panels this year, with all the 'oopla around that. Dunno. That part will probably keep your head un-asploded.
Besides, you can just go to the "Expo" part rather than the full conference. Will probably still get you into the parties, I guess 
Anyhoo, for anyone going, keep me pinged for a hookup!

I went to the one in Boston in 1989 as a student volunteer.
Unless they did one in Detroit, I don't see me getting to another one.

I'll be there. I'm only missing the airplane tickets. I'll definately catch you at the HDRI course. Not going to the Masterclasses though.
As far as the papers, yeah they're very technical, but at least with the pretty pictures you can get the gist of it :-P. Though one thing not to miss is the Papers Fast Forward Preview. Lots of fun. There is less technical stuff like the Sketches, which I think they have been renamed Talks this year.

I'm on the fence ... leaning against the trip this year.
After 8 months of flying coast-to-coast (Philadelphia to LA) for my job at DD ... I'm kinda looking forward to a summer break away from LA now that I've wrapped up my work on Button. (Watch for the trailer in front of Indiana Jones this month ... lots of great use of HDR lighting to see there  )

Fig, I'll keep my eye out for red hair, but the L.A. siggraphs tend to have hair of many a color
I'll be in L.A. approx from saturday 9:th (1PM) to saturday 16:th (~4PM) so there is a large window of opportunity to find me, although my schedule is a tad .. busy.

We TFN'ers need to find a way to all meet up for drinks and whatnot. My schedule is free, since i'm just visiting; save for key events that most everybody'll probably be at (autodesk party, maybe the blur party if i can nab a ticket from solitude).
Lately for me, i've just been knee-deep in the Threads of Destiny space battle. Fortunately I'll have a couple finished scenes (version 1 of them, at any rate) i can update on my demo reel. Should be tits, though; i'm landing in LA little before 7pm.
