Since watching I am Legend for the first time a few months ago I've been itching to do something post-apocalyptic. Twinkies is the result. I originally wanted to do a zombie film but we didn't have the people or resources for that so we had to settle on something else. In a way, this is kinda my I am Legend fanfilm, only not really occuring in that particular narrative universe. Let's just say it was influenced by it.

It was also an assigment for one of my video production classes that of course I put off til about last minute. Turnaround from shooting to handing it in was about 48 hours but I went back to add a couple of effects.

I wanted to something in a completely different style than the Squirrel Factor movies and given our time and resources I think it turned out pretty decent.

Some of the camera work isn't as polished as I would have liked but we shot this thing Guerrilla style. The exteriors were two men crew (myself at camera, Kyle out front). We didn't have permission to film in any of the locations we did, nor did we inform the authorities regarding the airsoft shot-gun. So yeah, we shot this one in a hurry.

Don't do that kids, it's a bad idea.

Kyle and I love it. My fiance's review consisted of a resounding "meh," which always makes me feel all warm and toasty inside.

Watch it here.

Runtime: 5:16

I cut my finger. That's tragedy. A man walks into an open sewer and dies. That's comedy.

Where'd you get the piano music?

Sounds a little NIN-influenced in the beginning, and the slightly wonky piano tuning turns me on a little.

Wow, that was awesome! Color grading was great. I might have preferred the building interior to be a bit darker, but that's personal preference.

I, too, love shorter films like this. Keeps you going between big projects.

What I am trying to figure out is where the camera work was unpolished. Handheld shots are fitting for this type of movie, and yours look good. Camera angles were well chosen.

This was a good video, and I agree, I would like to see more.

Oh, and the acting was great, you didn't blow a single one of your lines....

Good stuff, Zach.

Fig, if you look in the credits I think you'll find that it IS NIN.

Awesome, I'm pumped that you guys like it. Thanks for the compliments. grin

I was a bit hesitant to post it here since the first few reviews I got on it were somewhat negative.

I could go through it and point out all of the things that bother me about it but that would be somewhat self-defeating I think. Though, my nitpicks with the camerawork are just that, nitpicks. If anyone really wants to know, I can point them out.

However, there is one huge, glaring continuity error (which has nothing to do with camera) that drives me crazy. Whether no one noticed or just chose not to bring it up, it bugs the crap out of me. doh!

Since you guys seem to dig the color work I whipped up some comparisons, feel free to play with the originals if you so desire.

I really enjoyed this! The only thing that bugged me right off was seeing what looked like a massive scope on a shotgun. After seeing that it was a flashlight, I was able to sit in my chair a little more comfortably. Great job! Excellent cinematography!
