Right, I've just realized that our shoot time is almost here and it's time to get things organized for the sequal.

The first was completely and utterly awful tech-wise, but I'm going to improve this time (8 cores instead of 1GHZ Tongue)

Here's the original so you can see what I mean
http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=14kv98lPvRc

Now, I'm about to start revising the script and add some force lightning as some nice guy with AE has offered to do some for me.

We also have three cloning scenes which need doing, one simple one and another with multiple clones who walk across the screen with each other and another with one clone talking but the other is dead, some digital panning is also required in the 3rd clone scene.

If you want to help out with the sabres, you need to be able/willing to use Blender, it's only a 15-20MB download and is totally free and I'll make the sabre tutorial first so you guys will also learn on the job.

If you don't want to use Blender, then I'm sorry because I want to use Blender for the sabres to really show-off what it can do.

This should be due in october (exact date unknown) and I say should as they haven't said when the next film fest I intend this for is, I'm going off last year's date and as we don't have an exact dead line everything will need to be done ASAP.

I'll send compressed versions of the video to you guys and you guys send the project files back and I'll be rendering them with the HD versions.

So, who wants in?

Well... I could possibly handle the Cloning shots and I could make the lightsabers in AE, man...

Ok then, but I'm afraid if you want to do some sabres, you'll have to use blender as I really want to show it off.

AE > Blender.

For lightsabers, anyway. If you want to show off what it can do, you're prolly better off doing it yourself, or getting someone with experience.
Not to rip on anyone here, but if you want to show off a program, doing it with a novice who just learned the basics from a video tutorial may not be the best approach.

If you really want to show off the method that you created, it may be better for you to just do them, seeing as you would have more experience with it.

Just a thought.

Good luck though, I thought the first one was pretty funny.

Seconded.

EDIT, after posting, I see that vaportrail has edited his comment saying what i was trying to...

thus rendering this comment useless,

Sorry.
I edit just about everything I touch on a computer. It's like a tick.

Yeah, same here.

I actually wonder what it would be like to edit the old school way, and not an in NLE where you can(and I literally do) tinker and move around a project till the literal last second possible.

Would be interesting.

Back on topic.

It sucks.
No, really. It's absolutely brutal. I watch old movies and have no idea how they got their edits to be so great, let alone their audio. My longest project in school was only five minutes, but they were on 16mm, usually b&w. It helped non-linear be that much more impressive, and I would recommend it for any beginning film/video student who hasn't done much even on a computer. Well, even if they had, it's a good idea to understand your roots.
It could be why you'll see a lot of longer takes in older films. We have so much more freedom with non-linear.

Then there's the linear VHS editing. We won't go there.

Now back on topic. peace
Anyone around here do Blender sabers? This guy needs assistance!

I can do some roto work in blender. Not alot, but maybe 10 seconds, and then I could work from there if I have time. For the sabers in blender, do you want us to add the glow, or are you going to. I dont care which way, but I just want to know.

Are the glows going to be smooth or are they gonna be like the 1st?

Ok, to give you an idea of what to expect quality wise.

TS1, we had 2 weeks to write, shoot and all post-production (roto, editing, redubbing...) and equipment wise we had a pocket camera from Taiwan which started to die during the shoot and died shortly after and we had a 1GHZ Pentium 3 to do it all on.

TS2, We've had all year to write this and work on my VFX. Equipment, Cannon HD-DV camera (I forget the model, but it's dammn good) and a Mac Pro 2.8ghz X8.

So, in short, TS2 will be way better.

Sorry to bust your chops, but what equipment you have really doesn't matter. It ups the production value, but when it comes to everything else, it's all you. Not your equipment. You could make a block-buster with a crappy camcorder and a shotgun mic, editing on a 800Mhz computer if you're good enough. Having an 8 core mac doesn't help you with anything but rendering times and speed of workflow.

Remember I volunteered to help out with VFX? I'm using a 2x1.25GHz 1GB RAM Power Mac G4. It's slow, but it still gets the job done.

Trust me, when the camera and computer are falling apart, it matters a lot.

And they were seriously falling apart. No joke.
