I wish I could do that well in Blender. Of course, I just got it. Nice work on the model.

Learning blender...well. I went through the Blender Noob To Pro Wikipedia page on the blender wiki, skipping what I thought unnecessary, and referring back to it when I had trouble with things. Also, something that was EXTREMELY helpful to me was going to youtube and watching Speed-Modelling videos. Not only are they inspiring, but if you really pay attention, you can focus on what extremely gifted modellers do most often. Where they choose to extrude, etc.
I think the best way to learn how to model is to think of one of the coolest things you want to have and make it. I wanted Serenity, but I don't think I'm that far along, so X-Wing seemed like a more-than suitable substitute. And when you're doing things that are mechanical, you have the ability to work with mostly primitives, making them more advanced as you go along. See: my first attempt. A bunch of cylinders and an extruded box, along with a rather phallic nosecone :S.
As far as the project file goes, I would be more than happy to release it, but not until I'm finished with it . I'd love to give fan-film-makers a free X-Wing to play around with and use to their story-driving pleasure, but I want to get that X-Wing as close to perfection as I can before doing so. I took a little break off blender for the weekend, Girlfriend came home, actually went out and socialized, etc. But I'll get back to modelling soon enough. Right now I'm pretty much wracking my brain on making convincing textures and materials that react realistically. I mean, X-Wings are gray, but they're the special...star wars kind of gray that you see with the models they used on the originals. I also don't know what the hell I'm doing with texturing, and I haven't decided if I want to go with the traditional rebel design or maybe turn it into a future New Republic deal. I honestly have never mapped a real texture beyond slapping one on a sphere, so...it'll be a hill to get over. I'll keep posting updates, because it is just so nice to have a place where I can speak to my fellow-fans/nerds (sorry to offend, but I'm a self-proclaimed one)and get some truly constructive feedback, not to mention encouragement. Your encouraging comments are really helping me along, and I know if I put out something crappy you guys would let me know. So thankyou.

Good luck with the texturing. Blender is supposed to have THE best U/V texturing tools in the business. I'm interesting to see what you come up with. WormieSaber posted: Do people actually have to buy Blender?, because I tried to download the so-called free Blender with no luck.

::Update::
I've nearly torn all of my hair out because texturing completely eludes me, that and I was demoralized to find that you can download a better X-Wing model than mine in 3DS Max for free :S

I just don't know what to do now, I just...don't get how textures wrap around an object, or how to make them so they wrap around correctly.

there's an updated animation. It's still really, really quick. But Blender's keyframing interface is either extremely clunky or I really suck.
