going through the fanfilms which actually tell stories instead of swinging lightsabers(not that thats a bad thing) i noticed that theres something missing - expanded universe stuff! maybe im just one of the few lonely nerds who actually read the novels but there seems like there would be so much great potential to draw from for fanfilms from these topics, and in particular i think the new jedi order series would make an excellent setting for a film.
although we still have the presence of major characters like han/leia/luke, a fanfilm wouldnt necessarily have to include them, seeing as theres an entire jedi order and new government that could be cast however the director of such a hypothetical film would please. it would sure take alot of FX work in some form or another since the yuuzhan vong arent just guys in robes but i think it would be worth it.
im not really at a point with my film skills or contacts to where i could take on a project like this, but i was wondering if anyone else has thought about it/started on it/knows if theres something out there in the works or whatever.

It would be fun to make a film like this. However, the enemy, the Yuuzhan Vong, would require heavy costuming/makeup, and the budget for the film would run high and the effects would take quite a while to create for a film of that magnitude.

Check out the film "Spirits of the Force".
It features a few NJO characters such as Jaina Solo and Kyle Katarn.

I agree. The Vong are simply to complicated to do on the shoestring budget most fanfilms have to work with. Though I would like to see a Legacy Era film. Those Imperial Knights look badass!

Same problem - extensive costs for the armor!

There is some junk out there in EU (like some of the early novels where there was one super weapon after another), but there is also alot to draw from. For example:
a film around Chiss Clawcraft squadron
Or maybe Wraith Squadron (from the X-Wing series).
I do agree that the Vong would be pretty tough to do. Someone like Lou Klein might be able to pull it off though. The characters in Contract of Evil, and the Sith creature from Crossroads of Destiny aren't that far from a Vong.
How about a story where Kyp Durron runs across an older Quinlan Vos? Could make for a great bad-attitude fight.

Wrong.
I, Jedi was awesome and Thrawn was a bad-ass.

I always thought it would have been cool to see adaptations of excerpts from EU material. Had I the resources it'd be cool to just play with some dialogue scenes if nothing else from the X-wing novels or NJO or what have you.
And any 3D wizards out there: this guy would forever love anyone who did the burning of Ithor or the rise of the Lusankya from Coruscant. Just sayin'.

I, Jedi was a wanna-be autobiography by Corran Stackpole and one of the most shameful and disgusting pieces of printed media.
As much as it would be nice to see some familiar EU-stuff in fanfilms (cause IMO, Star Wars in any shape of motion picture is much more exciting to me than any book), it's crucial not to go for any stuff that has been written or even remotely influenced by Stackpole, who might not have actually invented the Gary Stu in Star Wars, but brought him to an all-new level for sure.

I disagree. I, Jedi remains my favorite book among all Star Wars books.

You sir, shall forever be my sworn enemy, I shall cut out thy liver, and dance on thy grave.
Anyway, I rather enjoyed I Jedi. I did like quite a few EU books, but I must confess that there were a lot of garbage storylines.
I would love to have a fanfilm that covered Star By Star. That was an amazing book, great storyline, great characters(a little sad though).

Speaking of Thrawn, I remember reading about him in several books. Did anyone ever cover his death?
