AE 7 (creative suite 2) comes with a thrid party plug-in called "ccSimpleWireRemoval" which is perfect for the problem you're having. I imagine other versions have it as well, but idk. What package(s) are you using for post?
Barring that, you could try to build up a 'clean' backround plate for the problem area: assuming that the mic moves around enough to give you a clear shot of the BG, and that you can correct/track any camera movement. Then you can roto-mask out the boom, and reveal your 'clean' background.
On the other hand, when the Snow Creature knocks Luke off of his Taun-Taun, the performer's red sleeve is clearly visible in the wide-screen version of Empire. Gives a film some character.

backdeskproductions posted: [quote/]. You'll have to do a lot of image repositioning, but it's soooo worth it..
^^^^Do this. If you want to keep your aspect ratio, just blow the image up a little bit for that specific shot and move the image up so the boom mic is cut off the picture. Don't do more than what is necessary under these cirumstances.
Of course leave enough head room for the talent. Don't want to cut off any heads. [/quote]

Still don't know what to do. It's going on the web and I'm using After Effects Creative Suite 3, if that helps.

Depending on where it is in the shot, there's a neat trick I learned from one of my teachers.
In Final Cut, you copy the clip that has the boom in it and place it right on top of the other one. Then you place the new clip right on top of the old one and give it some kind of blur. Finally, crop the new clip down to just the boom and nothing else. Now it looks like an inconspicous smudge, which most people don't notice. I've used this to remove whole lights from my shots.
