Ok, so in my film I have a few objects that should not even be there. For example in a fight scene you can clearly see a sheet of paper in the one of the scenes. But its in the woods so its like.. umm why is there paper in the woods.

So is this hard to learn how to do or can I get any volunteers?

It's not that hard. If you have AE anyway, it's worth learning how to do it.

As such, I wouldn't mind taking a stab at a few shots.
Break up my own AE monotony, looking at the same footage for years on end...

This is why it's doubly important to get clean plates for every setup.

(Related, it's triply important not to make mistakes like that in production anyway. wink )

Definitely agreed. All the projects i'm currently filming and the past ones i've learned not to make that mistake.

Was there a tutorial somewhere for removing shadows from a moving shot? That's the only issue I've had lately in terms of unwanted 'objects'.

Though, there is a shot where I'll have to photoshop and the match-move most of the background, as a random SUV limo appears in the background for the second shot at this angle. That'll be fun.

So the question has come up:
What is a person doing this job usually credited as?

Digital Scrubber? Eraser? Image Enhancer?

Thought one of you career types might have a name for this. Any help?

Bitch, usually.

Roto-bitch, dustbusting-bitch, etc.. Although this specific case, if it showed up on a full-scale production, would be left to some fairly grumpy compositor, unless it's a lock off. For the purposes of your credit roll, I'd say "compositor."

Actually in big productions that is left to a dedicated "roto and paint" group. Many go on to compositing but also many animators got their start in the roto dept.

It could go either way, to be fair. The reason I said comp instead of roto or paint is because, presumably, doing your basic paint job on something this big would result in major boiling for the spot they paint over, and you'd want to track in a background plate, at the very least, if not do some 3D trickery if the shot called for it.

Comp-bitch it is then. kiss

I'm basically doing it all with tracked-in elements from non-anachronistic parts of the shots.
You'll never know I was in there, except for the credit. wink

It worked out pretty nicely: Matthew sent me some compressed footage, I created a big AE project with separate comps for each bit of footage, and sent him that file as my product. We didn't have to transfer tons of data. It took me maybe 8 hours, half-a-minute worth of footage.

I put a few of the interesting ones on my new Deviant Art page...It's the first draft of my demo-reel, no frills at all. I realized after I uploaded that I'd rendered a goofy hybrid version with fades in-and-out on the removed items-- visually I didn't like it but I neglected to poke-out some eyes before I rendered doh! . My plan is to get a better version up this week, with some of my other work in there as well.
