Last I heard, the new generation of Ghostbusters was probably going to consist of Apatow regulars. Still not sure how I feel about that.

Ask me as recently as two years ago, I might have championed film as the ultimate goal. Give me the money and I'd shoot on it, I'd have said.

But now that RED's come out and taken care of pretty much everything 35mm film AND 16mm film have to offer, aside from a slightly lower dynamic range, I probably wouldn't shoot film given the option, preferring to redirect that budget money toward putting things in front of the camera instead of into it. Some specialty film, like IMAX, still has its uses, but when/if the RED Epic releases, that'll be pretty much dead to me too.

I don't hate film. I love movies and the vast majority have been shot on celluloid. I love the look of it and my gauge of its no longer being necessary is measured only by how well the digital imaging can emulate said look. But that time, in my estimation, has come. Now there's something pretty much just as good, and the next phase may even surpass it in terms of options -- for less money and with less guesswork involved.

It's the same way I feel about the Kindle. Yeah, real books are well and good, and I like the tactile sensations and all, but it's the words themselves that are valuable. I can get the words with my Kindle, and they're cheaper to buy than physical books, and they don't take up additional space in my house, and I can carry a thousand books in my laptop bag, and I can search the text dynamically and accurately without having to flip pages, and a half dozen other tangible benefits that outweigh any fetish I may have had for the printed page.

Shooting film now is tantamount to burning a big pile of money, as far as I'm concerned. Money that the filmmaker whose call for donations -- investments, rather; force of habit -- started this whole discussion is asking ME to remove from my pocket and place on said pile.

I don't have a problem if he wants to shoot film. I just have a problem with him wanting me to pay for it. I don't generally place a lot of value in doing things the quaint way just because it's quaint. And it's too bad, honestly. I like the concept, and if he weren't shooting film I'd probably invest.

The She-Busters? A co-ed next generation team I could see, but I'm not liking where they're going with this.

No one has said anything about a "team of hot young ladies." Believe me, I'd have noticed. Contact Music pulled that right out of their asses, probably taking Aykroyd's statement that the leader of the next gen would be a female to imply that they all would be.

As to that: Aykroyd is the wacky idea guy, Ramis is the make-it-good guy, as far as I can tell. So nothing Aykroyd tells us will necessarily represent the final product until it's shot and in the can.

I'm down with getting the Apatow gang in there. They're the top comedy pedigree, and the most reliable stable of talent since...well, the 80s. That is exactly the team they would get if they were making Ghostbusters today with the same mentality as in '84. Keep the bodily fluids humor to a minimum-or-none and we've got a deal.

I mean come on. Seth Rogen was BORN to be a next-gen Ghostbuster.

Seth Rogen I could definitely see as a next-gen ghostbuster... the question is, who else?

I think Jason Schwartzman would be a good fit. Also from the Apatow team, Bill Hader... who else?

Paul Rudd?
Rainn Wilson?

Actually, Rogen, Wilson, Hader and Schwartzman would get my votes for casting.

Bill Hader I could see.

Actually, they should just let Bill Hader play multiple characters. He could flawlessly imitate the entire original cast. It'd be amazing.

Rick McCallum loves you!

I'm a huge Jason Segel fan, and as a huge fan of Freaks and Geeks, would love to see him and Rogen together again.

Throw in Paul Rudd and it would be the tri-fecta of comedy awesome.

Since there's so many already listed from the Freaks and Geeks lineup, I'll throw in Martin Starr's name (Bill Haverchuck).

What the ****, I'll also toss in Jay Baruchel

So, I have a coupon for $20 off Universal Studios admission. Should I go later today by myself, or Friday when it'll be more crowded but my roommates might be able to come?

For something like that, I'd say go with people.

Well, my roommates just said that they probably can't make it Friday, either...and I don't want to go on the weekend, so this is pretty much my last available day before heading back east.

Considering I've been walking to the CityWalk by myself a lot lately anyway, I don't really have a problem with going alone.

going alone to a theme park seems sad, though. If you pay for a friend, I'm sure he/she will change heart. :P

Doggans, you should rebel against your roommates by coming over to my place on Saturday and partying it up in celebration of our country's birthday.

That's what you should do. Screw those guys.
