	Well today is our engagement party. Her ring came in last night,I had to run around like a mad man getting it for the dinner her parents had for us. It is exciting...and freaking hot here in Houston, hope it cools down a little for the party this afternoon. Ready for margaritas! So relieved she has her ring for the engagement party. I didn't want to answer tons of "where is the ring questions" and "it's not official till she has a ring", "how the hell did you pull of marrying a girl without getting her a ring", and "here use my plastic ring from my sons cracker jack box". It could have been bad! Vader date is great, I can't tell you why some make it and some don't. If you sent it Fed-ex it might have been lost, that apparently happened with mine last year. They told me they never even saw it last year. FX-guy said the same thing about his first entry into the film awards... I dare not even say his films name so I don't evoke comparisons. His is one of the greatest fan films of all time, mine is about a 1 on a scale of 10. The comparision stops with the films getting lost. So if you sent Vader date fed-ex, there is a chance it is under a desk right now. Vader date is a damn good piece of film and very enjoyable to watch. In fact I watched it twice! I think what I like most is Vader stays true to character if that makes sense. Yes it is a comedy but Vader is still respected by those around him and he isn't just some overall punchline. So, I can by into this comedy senario happening. There have been several films I have seen that were submitted that IMO were far better than Vader Date in various ways, and especially some of the animation ones, which just blew me away! And I gotcha about how yours was found. According to their site, anything submitted after the deadline goes into considerations for the next years challenge, so that would totally explain it. And I'm actually 100% okay with mine not getting in. I kind of expected it wouldn't, simply due to it being a little too racy for some Star Wars folks, and obviously is not geared towards kids lol. But seriously, there were some amazing entries that didn't make it in, and I cannot figure out why. I get that they can only choose so many finalists, but why not have the FANS vote for the finalists, and then Atom Films decides the winners from our selections of finalists? I know, I know, I'm ranting lol. But I did get verification they got mine in time, so I wasn't worried about it being lost in shipping

	you know I think one of the big differences between the old Atomfilms and the new Atom in regards to the Star Wars challenge is with the old Atomfilms, it was very easy to find the Star Wars contest on the home page of Atomfilms. That was year round, very easy to navigate to. The new Atom, if you didn't know they hosted the awards on their site, you would never find it. 	Hello, My film was accepted by Atom.com for this year's film challenge, and feel honored to have it be considered, in light of so many great fan films we've seen in past challenges. I don't know how it will fare online when it comes time, but my ultimate hope is that I can go to SDCC and meet you great folks.

"This should not be live, it is a test - please do not send this link to anyone! I am alerting our engineering team immediately that this is public. There is no link on atom yet because the voting page isn't live yet. When it goes live, you will see the link to voting." Also it looks like the Star Wars Fan Film Ceremony is going to be changed to Friday July 24. I saw this on the film vote page and Kate from Atomfilms confirmed it is being moved. Anyone know why? I know they rescheduled the awards ceremony from Thursday to Friday, but I'm not sure what time. 	Would any of you know where I may find the schedule of events for Comic-Con? All I can find on their site under programming is a blurb saying they will have a the events listed a couple of weeks before the convention begins. I'd rather know in advance to make travel arrangements, like most of you, I'm sure.

	Here's my take on some of the finalists: Bad Day for Vader Very creative, short and sweet Blasted Behavior Great concept, well thought out, good production value Death Star Over San Francisco Not much of a story, but amazing Special F/X shots, should win best special FX award Jedi Camp Great documentary-style idea, needed different sets with each kid to make it not artificial No Love for Wampa Great animation, great concept, competitive for the animation category Saber Undoubtedly will be the audience choice award winner. Too adult for Star Wars IMO. Star Fury! Strange Star Sports Theatrical Trailer Most likely to be the George Lucas selects winner. Great concept, costumes, and editing. Great mix of humor and action, and very fitting for Star Wars. Star Wars in a Notebook! Cute is the best word that describes this work. My choice for best animation. Sudden Remakes 1 Hilarious

	Good job this year on all the entries. I've enjoyed watching all of them. I'll give you my top 10 and because of extreme bias I'll leave out Star Wars: Cinemagic from my list. 1. Sudden Remakes 2. Star Wars in a Notebook 3. Saber 4. Death Star over San Fransisco 5. SW Family Dysfunction 6. Star Wars Retold 7. No love for Wampa 8. Where are they now 9. WTF Star Wars 10. Star Sports Lot of good ones, I guess I lean more towards animation since that is what I study. 	Hi gang, Been awhile. Quick disclosure: I co-produced Padmé last year, but made this year's entry (Glen Eisley Glen Mos) on my own. The other Padmé fellas had other obligations (like having babies and doing whatever else it is you married people do). But I decided I had had too much fun and forged ahead with an idea that tickled me. Luckily, some cool friends stepped up to help make it happen. And I am absolutely over the moon for us have made it to the finals... especially when I see the production value of the other entries. Fewer finalists this year, but very cool stuff imho. And what's with the weird synergy where three different people spontaneously make three wild and distinctive films all about recapping the mythology? Something in the water? :-) Finally got a chance to watch all of the finalists and can honestly say that I found something enjoyable in each one. FWIW, my faves in no particular order: • Star Wars in a Notebook This is one that I managed to watch before the finalists were announced and I flipped for it then. To me, it's not a question of if it will win -- just which trophy. • Death Star Over San Francisco My personal tastes skew more towards story and humor, but there's no denying the technical proficiency here. To an FX layman like me, it looks flawless. And if anyone knows how they finagled the license for the, ah, final gag (no spoilers ;-) ), I'm dying to know. • No Love for Wampa Two finalists from one filmmakers is impressive in itself. And while I love the slanket/snuggie joke in "Where Are They Now?" something about the simplicity and brevity of this piece gave it the edge for me. • Star Wars: Retold Another of the "retelling" triumvirate. It's funny as hell and the animation is used deftly. Plus, Leia's "gold suit" rocks. • Star Wars: Cinemagic Like "Death Star," I was wowed by the technical aspects of this one more than any other element. There are plenty of other bits that I enjoyed: Vader's tiny little cape, the sad sack Emperor's "Yeah... or maybe we could finish building the space station?", Revan's costume, "I'm eight... but I play six.", some cute kids, and "Get out of here, Werner!" all come to mind. I feel lucky to be in such company and hope all of the filmmakers make it to San Diego, so I can attach some faces to the films and say "congrats" in person. - spazweez (kevin)
