All I can do is laugh at that post. Heh.

Anyways, I think that it looks very promising. CG effects are pretty good, lightsabres are OK, but this looks like a movie that (for once wink ) won't need the effects to carry the film.

PS. Yes I know there have been other films that haven't needed the effects (but pretty much had them anyways.)

Thanks for all the replies everyone! For those who don't know, I'm Scott Zier, Director of Reciprocity. Let me see if I can answer some of the questions that came up. :-)

DorkmanScott wrote:
<<Personally I thought the film could use some color correction.>>

You bring up a good point about many of the shot looking very different in the color pallet. I should tell you that the movie is 49min long currently, and that the pallet change takes place over a great distance of time, and change in scene location. The change in pallet colors are appropriate for the script in which they were used (with the exception of a few effects shots that have already been tweaked).

We have found that the brightness and contrast of a monitor can also cause viewing problems with this, however. Which may be why it disturbs you a bit more than others. We plan to implement a "adjust your contrast and gamma to this setting for optimal viewing" page at the start of the film. ;-)

He also added:
<<The matte edges could also stand some feathering.>>

Agreed. This is something that we have been working hard on. We shot the film over quite a long time... and we learned a lot more later than we did sooner. Because of this some of our early lighting and matts are really hard to work with. It is something that we will keep working on and tweaking up until release early this summer.

Nathan PTH wrote:
<<It would be important for the uninformed, though, to remember that while the idea of using Inquisitors in a fan film is so far unique, the Inquisitors themselves are a pre-existing concept.>>

Very true. I pulled the idea from a novel of short storys that I read. It's been modified a bit from the book though, to fit the direction of the story we wanted to tell. Plus, the book I read at the time was quite vauge. There is a behind the scenes look at Reciprocity that we sent to TFN a long time back that talks a little about where we got the idea for the inquisitors from. I'll see about getting that out soon for those interested.

Sith_Shadow writes:
<<i had no idea alamDV would look that good at saber effects>>

Errr... huh? I don't think we have said what we did the effects with yet. We did the saber effects using a combination of Commotion and Adobe After Effects.

buliwif asks:
<<my only question is, do they have camouflage in a galaxy far far away?>>

I know you were kidding, but this does bring up a good point. I don't think you *have* to make things look alien for them to fit into Star Wars. Look at what Han Solo wore in ANH, a vest with a collared shirt. Sometimes simple things work just as well. Anyway, the local militia in those shots are part of an independent planet, and it fits quite well with the scene and role they play. (Well, at least we think it does.) ;-)

I thank everyone for all of the comments! It's good to hear the advise so we can work to fix things we agree with, and it's very encouraging to hear all the positive things that were said. It's made us redouble our efforts. ;-)

I agree with Dorkmann that you might want to consider running a color correction filter, at least on your CG effects layers... the blues are awfully saturated and a bit too intense.

An "Adjust Gamma" statement might be alright, but I don't think a lot of regular viewers will know or understand how that works, and they may have problems restoring there settings.

Past the oversaturated blues I think it looks very interesting. I agree, the bits at the end with the floating victim and the saber choreography look pretty impressive... I think this one's going to be pretty cool. Looking forward to it!

Well, I was going to keep it pretty simple. Just an "Adjust your monitors contrast until you can't see the circle." I think most users can change the brightness of their monitor, as it's right there in front of them. Of course, they can also just ignore it if they like. ;-)

Hey all. I'm Allen Guzzetta, Stuntman/Coordinator for Reciprocity.

I'm just chiming in to say thanks to everyone for taking the time to talk to us about the trailer. It's like getting our own group of critics. Anyway we really hope that you all enjoy the movie itself even more than the trailer.

If you have any questions for me, just let me know.

Ahhh... okay, brightness adjust would probably be acceptable, if a bit unusual... but not necessarily a bad thing.

It was when we started talking about gamma adjustment that I began to itch. I've had to color-correct my monitors twice, and it's no fun at all... *shudder*

I'm guessing that in some scenes you guys are going for the sort of lighting seen in Pitch Black? I noticed that a few shots are almost all tones of one color or another... interesting idea...
