DVGarage uses
RealViz
to make their reflection map panoramas.
It's not cheap though.

No. Photoshop is too cheap of a program to do that. You need to find one that is over $1000 to be able to do the intense graphics similar to the banners found here.
(whoops, sorry about forgetting the sarcasm tags. Funny how people "buy" programs and don't know their purpose, or even some of their capabilities.)

Not necessarily. these programs are fairly complicated. Even a legit buyer can't be expected to know everything about it right out of the box. And considering the thickness (and sometimes useless nature)of software manuals , it might be easier to ask someone on a message board.

Really? I don't think you buy a program in the price region of Photoshop, if you don't know basic stuff like that about it...
The answer by the way is YES, you can do a banner like that in Photoshop... but only in the payed version... the downloaded version lacks this feature... *duh*

Do you want a program for making panoramic pictures, or for compositing a banner?

For a banner you should use something like Photoshop, but for a panoramic picture you should use something like
RealViz
(as I said above).
I hope your father can get that for you from his work too, or at least a discount because it is not cheap and if you are not going to use it a lot it is not really worth while
.

Learn to use Google.
This is the first thing listed on the first site that came up for the search
"freeware" + "360 images"
Is $39.99 too expensive?
I am sure there are many other options. Maybe even a freeware alternative.
