Back Story for SWD posted:By 40 ABY, tensions were high in the Galactic Alliance. Rebuilding efforts to repair the damages of the Yuzzhan Vong war were going along as smoothly as could be expected, and the InterGalactic Banking Clan had been able to pull itself together and finance rebuilding efforts on Muunilinst. The Galactic Economy was fairly stable, though still lagging thanks to the Vong, and the Alliance was able to recover quickly from the Swarm Wars which allowed Chiss participation nearly a decade earlier. However, by 38 ABY, things began to go sour. Many planets within the Galactic Alliance began to question the decisions of their leadership, and the benefits of being in the Alliance itself. Most notably among them was Corellia, leader of the Five Worlds (a government of the Corellia System), whose outspoken stance within the Senate halls has strained relations with many GA members. A botched Jedi operation on Adumar to disable a concussion missile factory, responsible for supplying Corellia with ordinance, further strained relations between the Galactic Alliance and the Five Worlds. Many members of the Galactic Alliance met with Corellia to discuss the formation of a new government, and the Galactic Alliance is desperately trying to hold onto the power it fought to acheive... http://www.swdiplomacy.com/forum/index.php?act=idx ]Star Wars Diplomacy
Back Story to SWD: TAS posted:At long last, with war after war, peace and prosperity came to the Republic. Vast armies and navies were downscaled, and the Republic came to rely on the Jedi more and more for the maintenance of civility. Despite a few isolated flash points like the Stark Hyperspace War full-scale military conflict remained a distant memory. As the Republic grew more and more powerful, many of the bureaucrats and Senators that ran the government grew increasingly corrupt or complacent. The bureaucracy that had grown and festered over millennia choked any attempt at proactive government. Furthermore, patron politics and personal agendas also hampered effective governing, and due to the capitalist nature of the Republic, corporations like the Trade Federation and Techno Union grew in power. The Eriadu Trade Summit took place only last year to discuss the issues surrounding the proposal to allow Trade Federation armament in replace for Galactic Senate taxation of free-trade zones, as well as provide a forum for discussions on ending the violence of the Nebula Front and similar groups. However, it was to be a serious mistake; security droids assassinated six of the seven Directorate members and made an attempt on the life of Valorum, making it look like the Nebula Front was responsible. As such, the Summit ended prematurely, with nothing resolved. It was a major public relations disaster for both the Jedi who failed to prevent the attacks, and for Valorum himself. Now the Senate continues to debate the new taxation laws, while also passing restrictions on the Chancellor's use of the Judicial Department and Jedi Order. The Directorate of the Trade Federation was quickly replaced by its Representatives but during its short absence Neimoidian control over the megacorporation was strengthened, giving them even more influence and power over the conglomerate.
