I've been working on machining a lightsaber handle and I was wondering if anyone knows what Lucas arts made the blades out of that were used for practicing.
Polycarbonate dowel?
Lexan?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

You might want to try the costuming forum or maybe even fan films since they probably deal with that type of question.

For the final answer costuming would be the place to look but I do know that A) they were specially made and B) what material was used depends on which movie you are referring to. EP I-III each had different blades and EP IV-VII used a variety of materials depending on the shot and for some shots no blade was used at all. I beleive one of issues of Insider covered this and if I find which one it is I will pass it along.

ummm....get the star wars revenge of the sith dvd ...get the second disc and it is like web documentaries ....sumthing like that and they have sumthing on there that lets u about ..the light saber thingy  PEACE!
