But in order to get the "distinct sound" they needed to record the dialogue in the desert to achieve the echo effect then play it at double speed.

Wasn't this a Cheers episode? Where Major Bren Derlin ... uhhhh ... I mean Cliff Claven was on Jeopardy and Final Jeopardy was a listing of three people (I think they signed the Treaty of Versailles) and he answered "Who are three people who have never been in my living room?" which was technically not a wrong answer but not correct either...
