Comic-Con International is returning to San Diego for its 39th year. It is a huge convention (the past two years have topped 125,000 attendees) that covers everything from movies, TV, comics, manga, webcomics, and more. Star Wars always has a huge presence, including the yearly Star Wars Spectacular hosted by Steve Sansweet where he tells us about up and coming projects with LFL, and this year we get to reveal the new eFX sabers.
Outside of Star Wars, the biggest names in Hollywood and almost all the movie and television studios come to discuss their newest projects and movies. You get the first sneak peeks at upcoming movies. At CCI 2007, we were the first to see the Dark Knight Trailer, footage and a preliminary trailer for Iron Man, footage from Prince Caspian, The Spiderwick Chronicles, Stardust, Indiana Jones 4, Star Trek, and many many more, including the first showing of Superman: Doomsday. Attendees got free tickets to watch 300 on the jumbo screen of Petco Park Stadium, and select fans got to see a pre-screening of Balls of Fury and parts of Beowulf.
This convention sells out ridiculously early, so be sure to buy your pass way ahead of time.

Hotels for this sell out within the first hour of going on sale, so be sure to plan ahead and be ready to place a reservation as fast as you can.
It's a great convention and a once in a lifetime experience!

Hotels anywhere near the convention center have already sold out, unfortunately. You can still call and see if they have available rooms, but you won't get the good convention rate.
As for becoming a vender, I'm afraid it's way too late at this point. Tables on the dealer's floor sell out within a month after July. Though now would be a good time to start planning for next year.
What you'd need to do is right after Comic-Con this summer, send in the table application. Ensure that you have a dealer's license and all the proper paperwork, and that you have the tons of money they require you to pay.
This is a link to what this year's application looked like. A new one for 2009 will be posted in August or Late July.

In other news, in the latest Comic Con magazine, it said that Samuel L Jackson will be returning this year to talk about his new movie "Spirit." Sam's panels are always a hoot (Snakes on a Plane was by far the funniest one I've been to), so be sure to catch it!

Without traffic, Anaheim to downtown San Diego is I'd say two hours.
And buying a day pass isn't hard; though buy one sooner rather than later.
