Another thing about the Griffith Observatory: Obi-Shawn of H-Wing.Com fame designed a lot of the new exhibits there. Minor point, but it's a little connection between the place and the Fandom.

Missed that Griffith got asked about.

Aside from checking the site... some basic info

Griffith Observatory is a public astronomical observatory that opened in 1935 as a part of Griffith Park. We have 3 floors of exhibits, primarily about astronomy, but with a few general science extras like a Tesla coil that we've had for the last 70 years. We also have what is the largest astronomical photograph ever made, at roughly 20 feet tall and 140 feet long. We also have a 25 minute film about the observatory and astronomy in California hosted by Lenard Neimoy as well as a 25 minute presentation in our planetarium dome using what was at least a few months ago the most advanced planetarium projector in the world. The presentation itself is about how our perspective on our place in the universe has changed over the last several hundred years as we have learned more.
Observationally, we do have some solar instruments that are open during the day. At night from 7 to 10, we have several telescopes, a 12 inch refracting telescope on top of the building has been there since 1935 and more people have looked through that telescope than any other telescope in the world. We also have a few reflecting telescopes set up outside on our front lawn. Its not the best seeing because we are perched right over L.A., but the point of the observatory wasn't dark skies (thats what the historic Mt Wilson observatory about 40 mi NE of LA is for) but to be accessable to the people of Los Angeles.
Which does lead to that being situated on the hills above the L.A. basin does allow for a large view of the city, and you can see Santa Monica, Hollywood, downtown L.A., and under good conditions, Catalina Island and Long Beach. We're also just one mt away from the one that features the Hollywood sign.

And for the nerd appeal, we have a cafe called the Cafe at the End of the Universe.

Okay, I'm wondering how close the Greyhound station is to the Convention Center. If I can't get a ride that may be my only option. worried

If you have to use Greyhound, the terminal is at 1716 East Seventh Street. You are two and a half miles from the convention center.

That's a really good store, nice to see it's still there (found it when I was out there in 2000).

It's very high-end - comics are there but they seem to specialize in graphic novels/TPBs and other comic-related merchandise. It's like a Suncoast Motion Picture Store - except instead of DVDs and movies, it's comics and TPBs. So basically heaven for folks like me. happy

And on-topic with this whole C4 thingy, they have a close working relationship with Dark Horse Comics, so I'm sure they'll be putting an extra spotlight on the books we care about. wink

Is there any place around the convention center where you can get photos printed at?

Thanks! It's not a necessary item for me, but I thought it would be nice to know, just in case. But does the convention center business center do anything like that? It seems like there would be a demand for it at conventions in general. But they might also be pricey I guess.

Hmmm... under their link at the LACC website, it says this:

"Services Provided:

• Coat and Baggage Check (fees may apply)
• Computer Workstations
• Conference Room Rentals
• Copying
• Faxing
• Internet Services
• Laminating
• Office Supplies
• Phone Cards available
• Professional Services
• Small Package Shipping & Receiving

We are conveniently located inside the Los Angeles Convention Center, Concourse Hall, 2nd level. Business Services Center lobby"

So it doesn't look like they do printing. They'll copy something for you, though.

Thanks for the Business Center list! Hmmmmm, no photos, but a lot other useful stuff. Hmmm, I didn't see prices, even on the brochure on their web page. Ah well, I suppose we will be paying for convenience.

Anyone aware of any stores that might carry other movie/ TV collectibles in Downtown or Hollywood? I'm looking for Nightmare Before Christmas and Corpse Bride toys by NECA, McFarlane and Jun Planning.
