What do we do with them? Think we should try to organize any activities for our more mundane better halves?

If they aren't into Star Wars, LEAVE THEM AT HOME! =) I know, easy for me to say because I'm getting divorced. Seriously, I can't imagine anyone having a good time unless they are a fan.

Luckily mine is from California so she is going to visit her family in Oakland while I geek out at Celebration with my sister.

Grump knows my story. I am bringing my wife and we are making it our vacation for the year. I just have to take a few days and let her do whatever she wants. It's understood that if something awesome is going on, then we are going to the convention. If nothing is happening, then we can roam LA and do what she wants. It's all about the compromise.

If its the wife who doesn't want to go, let her go shopping. It is LA. =D
My husband likes Star Wars but isn't into it as much as I am. He still thinks it will be fun to dress up and goof around so he's coming with.
I let him have his own lightsaber, that made him happy.

I love and adore my husband very much. That being said, I think the key to a happy marriage is seperate vacations. 
He spent a week at some Dukes of Hazzard fest this year drooling over orange Chargers while I stayed home with the little tykes. Next year I get to geek out at CIV and he gets to spend quality time with the boys.

My hubby hates and I mean hates lines. He likes SW and I think he would enjoy and appreciate things like SW in 30 minutes and the One Man SW Show, but he knows that he would only be a burden at C4. He would moan and groan about the lines and is the first to admit so. I, however, do not mind the lines; they are apart of the Celebration.
No problem. He goes hunting and I go to SW Celebrations. 
As for what your spouse can do, well, I am sure they can find something of interest in a big city like LA. If they do not wnat to venture away from the con center, non-fan spouses make good place holders in lines.

thankfully my other half will just let me go to these alone. She knows she will only slow me down and would not have a good time. flying from Tasmania gets expensive for 2 people so she's gonna stay home.

It's gonna be nice for us to git outta Hillbilly Holler Indiana and go to the big city. I don't want her to be cooped up in the hotel. The place holder idea is a nice one though.

Yeah, I saw some obviously non-fan placeholders in line. They were not engaging in conversation around them, not soaking up the SW bliss, and reading (  horrors of horrors) non-SW literature to pass the time! If they are up to the task, this may come in handy.
Mind you I am not advocating someone holding a group of people's places in line, but for one spouse to another, or one Sw buddy to another as I did (for restroom visits, snack breaks, quick runs through the fan fair hall, etc.), I do not see the problem.

the group I was with held places in line for people. We made sure that for every person we were holding a place for there was a person in line. half the gruop in the line the other half checking out things and running about. worked well for us. there was usually six of us in the line while the others did things. then we'd swap and go and do things while the others were in line.

If my fiance goes, she'll probably take a friend with her and they will go and do stuff around LA while me and my SW friends will geek out at C4. But, we'll get there a day before the Con, and take an extra day after the Con, so we can do stuff together too. There's not really all that much that I really want to see in LA except Hollywood, Gruman's Chinese, etc. I think a couple days extra can accomplish that.

I'm a local so my music geek hubby won't even be involved. I'll be riding the Red Line in.
I have been trying to get him into cosplay because he's perfect for it but he's stubborn about that sort of thing. He's even stubborn with Halloween. I convinced him to go as Nosferatu/Count Dracula (a bit of both considering what he looks like...he dressed more like Dracula but looked more like Nosferatu) to one Halloween party but that was it.
He would make an absolutely awesome Sith though...grumble grumble...
