Can anybody give any info on 'The Hamburger Hamlet' - A definite 'SW's Hidden Treasure' on my list of spots to check out, Does it still exist? How far from the Con Center? Is it busy? What's the food like? Anybody been there?

It's been mentioned in another thread, but yes, Hamburger Hamlet is still across the street from Grauman's Chinese in Hollywood. It's about eight miles from downtown L.A. The subway will take you "right" there; at least, it will drop you off at the Hollywood & Highland complex, and you will just have to walk across Hollywood Boulevard to get to the restaurant. The food is good, IMO, and reasonable for L.A.

It's all about that pizza place by Graumans where they serve you a pizza that's like 3x3 feet!

For fans of unusual architecture...
I present the Chiat/Day/Mojo headquarters in Santa Monica:
L.A. headquarters of the company that brought you advertising for Energizer Battery, Nissan and the Sony PlayStation.
Plenty more where this came from. I'll add to this post later.

Are there any good steakhouses in the area? I heard something about one in another thread but can't find it now. If there is one around, do you know what the prices are like?

There are some. The Palm is just up the street from the convention center; it gets so-so reviews, and it is very expensive. Nick & Stef's is also downtown; very pretty much an expense account kind of place. Windows is in the Transamerica Tower, which you can see from the convention center. Again, this is a "bring your credit card" kind of place, but the view is spectacular. Food gets good reviews. There are others all over town.

But Paco's is so far away, down by LAX! It might be worth the trip, tho.

My wife and I are flying into LA on May 22nd, so we will have some time to catch a few of these sights for sure. Having never been to LA, it will definitely be cool to do some sight-seeing with the free time that we will have before C4.
Then its off to standing on line outside the LACC on Day 1...

Thanks for the info. My birthday is on the 23rd, so I'm just looking for a great place for my friend and I to have dinner.

Just to chip in my vote for the Getty Museum. I love it and will be going again this trip, if any of my fellow UK'ers want to come along thats great. Its worth it just for the setting, the building is beautiful, the grounds are fantastic and inside is full of really cool old stuff an archaeologist like me gets excited over!
