AIRPORT TRANSPORTATION INFO

This particular post highlights public transportation options available to/from the two local airports.
Bob Hope (Burbank) International Airport. Metro Bus 94 will take you to Union Station in downtown Los Angeles, where you can take the subway, other buses or the DASH bus to get you to and from your downtown hotel. Bus 94 runs every 22 minutes from 4:30 AM to Midnight every day, and costs $1.25 one way. To get to the bus stop, you'll need to take the free airport Transporter Shuttle bus to the Metro/RTD bus stop on Hollywood Way at the Airport Entrance.
Los Angeles International Airport. Others have mentioned the FlyAway Airport Shuttle service, which also travels to and from Union Station. These buses travel in the carpool lines, which means a quicker trip even during rush hour. The FlyAway operates on a 30 minute schedule from 5 AM to 1 AM and 60 minute schedule from 1 AM to 5 AM every day. Cost is $3.00 one way. FlyAway buses pick up at every LAX terminal on the Arrival/Lower level under the green signs indicating "FlyAway, Buses and Long-Distance Vans."
Both roundtrip and one-way bus fare tickets are available for purchase at a kiosk adjacent to Berth 9 at Union Station East Portal/Patsaouras Transit Plaza. Passengers traveling from LAX to Union Station, and who did not previously purchase roundtrip tickets, must pay bus fare upon arrival at the ticket kiosk adjacent to LAX FlyAway stop at Berth 9 at Patsaouras Transit Plaza. Payment for tickets is with cash only. No personal checks, credit or debit cards accepted for purchases.
You can call 1-800-266-6883 or visit www.metro.net for further information.

SuperShuttle link is also pretty decent. I've used their services before and have paid a low rate while getting a nice ride as well. It IS a ride share service, so you may ride with others, but it's well worth it for the low cost and friendly drivers.

Hey Val, can you tell me how accessable taxis are? Are they right outside the airport? Approximately how much are they from LAX to, let's say the Omni? Thanks! I know in Indy, I got out of the airport, hopped in a cab and they took me right there. I forget how much it was though.

This is right off the official LAX website:
"Taxis can be found curbside on the Lower/Arrival Level islands in front of each terminal under the yellow sign indicating Taxis. Passengers will be presented with a ticket stating typical fares to major destinations. Only authorized taxis with an official seal issued by City of Los Angeles Department of Transportation on each vehicle are permitted in the airport. It is illegal for any transportation services to solicit fares, and travelers using such services do so at their own risk."
The only taxi companies allowed to pick up passengers at LAX are:
Bell Cab Company
Beverly Hills Cab Company
Checker Cab
City Cab
Independent Taxi
United Cab
Yellow Cab
As of right now there is a $2.50 surcharge added to all taxi fares leaving LAX. The flat rate for travel between LAX and downtown L.A. is $42.00 ($44.50 with surcharge). If you're arriving with friends you can always share a cab, of course.

RE: AIRPORT TRANSPORTATION INFO

This was just posted on the LAX website. I bolded some of the more relevant sentences:
"Passengers departing Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on domestic flights to all 50 U.S. states can complete airline check-in of their baggage and receive airline boarding passes and baggage claim tickets before arriving at LAX. This convenient and inexpensive service allows passengers to eliminate waiting to check in at airline ticketing counters or terminal curbside. Upon arrival at their airline terminal, passengers can proceed directly to passenger security screening. The remote check-in service provider transports the baggage to an LAX facility where they are inspected by Transportation Security Administration security screeners and then placed on board the passengers’ flights. This service is not available to passengers on flights to international destinations, nor to the U.S. territories in the Caribbean and the Pacific.
Service Locations
The service is available from:
* Union Station FlyAway – Berth 9 at Patsaouras Transit Plaza, East Portal of Union Station, downtown Los Angeles
* Los Angeles Convention Center -- 1201 South Figueroa Street, downtown Los Angeles
Service and Transportation Fees
The check-in service fee is $5 per person with up to two bags each at the Union Station FlyAway bus site. (Each bag’s weight must be 50 pounds or less.) Please contact the service provider, Baggage Airline Guest Services, Inc. (BAGS), for information on service fees at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
Passengers who check more than two bags and/or bags each exceeding 50 pounds must pay additional fees to their airline at its ticket counter upon arrival at LAX. Passengers should contact their airlines for information on baggage weight restrictions and fees.
Tickets for the Union Station FlyAway non-stop bus service to LAX terminals cost $3 one way ($6 roundtrip), $2 for children 2 to 12 years old ($4 roundtrip), and free for children younger than 2 years.
Hours of Operation
Airline and baggage check-in at the Union Station FlyAway location is accepted at least 3 hours before domestic flight departure from LAX. Hours are from 4:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Pacific Time daily, including weekends and holidays. Please contact the service provider, BAGS, Inc., for information on hours of operation at the Los Angeles Convention Center . The FlyAway bus service does not provide transportation to LAX from the Los Angeles Convention Center.
Participating Airlines
The service is available on domestic flights operated by the following airlines: American Airlines, American Eagle, Alaska Airlines, Continental Airlines, Delta Airlines, Horizon Air, Northwest Airlines, Ted Airlines, United Airlines, and United Express/Skywest Airlines. Additional airlines are expected to join the program soon."
So, this is something new and certainly should save airline travelers some time and hassle. Let's just hope it's operating during C-IV .

My dilema is that I am going to Disneyland the five days prior to C4, is there any shuttle service or car service with reasonable rates ($40 or so one way) between Disneyland and downtown LA? Thanks in advance!

Starline Tours will pick you up at your downtown hotel and take you to Disneyland for the day. The cost is currently $98 per person -- which includes either admission to Disneyland or to California Adventure. (Considering that a Disneyland ticket is currently $63.00, that's not too bad). You'll have about seven hours in the park. Grayline does the same thing but includes admission to both parks (and eleven hours) for $142.00.
Otherwise, it's taxi (which is gonna run you a lot unless you can split it with somebody), or public transportation (the trains).
We're getting away from airport info here, so if you have any more questions, just post 'em in the "One Stop Shopping" thread, thanks!

thanks for keeping us all informed. When I was out there for Dressing a Galaxy I took some sort of transport/van that cost right around $15 but I can't remember the name of the company - it was a shared ride with whoever else they were picking up.

Thanks for the info.
Does anyone know the basic taxi fare rate (per mile)? Just curious ...
I'm debating on using either a taxi or bus / train, etc., just trying to figure out which would be cheaper.
My hotel to the con is pretty close 1.42 miles (thanks to mapquest).

Danpa...
I believe the cheapest way I found is through the shuttle that runs from the airport to downtown. The shuttle runs $15 per person and I believe that children run free.
Taxi's are very high. They are in all cities just not LA. I do not know how old you are but the buses are not as safe as the shuttles or taxi's, but its all up to you. Hope this helps!!!

I posted this on SW.com, should have posted it here:
Just to give you an idea, here are the rates of Yellow Cab of Los Angeles. You'll have to do the math :
YELLOW CAB RATES
$2.65 –– Flag drop (first 1/11 mile or 30 secs. or fraction thereof)
$ .35 –– Each additional 1/7 mile or part
$ .35 –– Each 47.5 sec. waiting time and/or traffic delay ($26.53/hr. wait).
$ 2.50 –– Airport-mandated surcharge for taxi trips originating at LAX
$42.00 – Flat rate per trip (group) in either direction for trips between LAX and Downtown
You can actually make reservations. Here is the Yellow Cab link: Yellow Cab
