Come on in and join us! It's great to have this type of support! I find it helpful that we all have at least one big reason and the goal date in common.

TBH I'm not doing that well. I just cant find my mind set, I'll do 2-3 days of eating well, then I let it slide. Any one know where you can buy self discipline on line ?

If that were possible I would have obtained that long ago! I stay focused when I have a specific goal or deadline to meet, Vacation/C4 is my main goal, in addition to some other goals. What I find helpful is to read articles about people that have lost a lot of weight, if they can do it, so can I, and so can you! I find them inspiring, and the before and after pictures don't hurt, makes me think of how good I will look when I am done. So that is how I stay motivated...that and the endorphins from a good dose of cardio keep me going as well. So far seven pounds have gone away and I don't miss them at all!

Take baby steps. Don't always think "I have to do this by May!" Think "I'm setting a goal of 1-2 pounds for the next week." Go in little tiny increments.
I'm now down over 4 pounds since 1/1 -- that's two weeks, going for just 2 pounds at a time. Doing Weight Watchers (flex plan/counting points), as well as on-line, and walking or exercising at Curves. All I think about is the "next 2." I'm not doing a costume at CIV, so I'm keeping it simple.

I lost 3 lbs in the last week. I'm really excited about this I've decided to celebrate every 5 lb loss with some sort of self pampering, whether it be a new item of clothing or something as simple as taking the time for a bubble bath. I'm excited about the change I'm seeing.

Good for you!! I really like your idea of rewards! Just don't buy too many clothes, as they won't fit in another month! Congrats, keep it up!

That is a good point. I have a feeling I might lean towards jewelry. My works dress code is wear all black So the only color I get to wear in the day is my jewelry
Anyway, I'm having fun getting used to climbing up and down a ladder and moving props from shelfs. I also had practice making balloon animals today. Spent the day on my feet, so much more activity during the day for me than when I was jobless. So I'm feeling great.
I hope you all are having good days!

You have done it before, you can do it again! Exercise is a nice 'high' to keep you going, I'm getting in better shape now, going longer on the cardio and at higher levels. My short term goal is to run the St. Pat's Day 5K (if I am not working that weekend), I will have to start running on the treadmill again come February.
Live is just better with exercise, it is for me anyway, must be that feeling of accomplishment I hunger for.
You are all doing great!

I can see that this thread here is pretty well establiblished, which I hope folks dont mind me dropping in late in the game for some fitness questions and support!
My name is James aka Commander Voltaire. When I attended CIII i was rougly 25lbs over weight. In the last year and a half since CIII I probably gained another 10 pounds. I started my routine in advance of the New Year, at around Dec 15. I have lost 7lbs since, simply by speed walking after work and knocking down portions to the minimum (christmas dinners were tough, trust me) Starting this coming Saturday, I will begin my running routine, starting about a half mile. My goal is to be running 5 miles a day by mid March. The last year I ran 5 miles a day was 2002, wherein I was fit at 5'10" and 185 lbs. I became a slacker and got wrapped up in sideways relationship, which this time I have every intent to be single for CIV!
One of the issues I have is getting my abs and chest down so i can fit into a set of clone armor I just bought recently. It fits fine now, though I am going for the full effect. I have basically a mid- 30's beer Monday Night football belly thing going on. I dont need to lose 30lbs, rather about 20-25lbs, and the flatter I can get my abs, the better the armor will look. Does anybody have any suggestions as to how I can do proper sit ups with out any extra assistanace? I will be buying one of those big bouncy work out balls this weekend as well, so any rountine suggestions would be awesome.

Unfortunately, all the situps in the world won't make your stomach flatter, if there's a layer of fat on top of it. There is no way to spot reduce. Fat comes off in a physiologic pattern -- you lose it from the extremities/face inward. Because fat is primarily to protect our organs as well as provide stored energy, the cruel joke is you will lose it from the place you most want to lose it (typically abd/rump/etc)...last. HOWEVER. Getting a stability ball is a great idea -- situps WILL help you strengthen your 'core', and if you have a strong body core, and carry yourself better, you will give the illusion of a flatter stomach.
Literally, work on your posture. "Stand up straight," is what I hear from MD's all the time. Look at yourself in the mirror - put your shoulders back and tighten your abs. Do that whenever possible during the day. Use the stability ball to sit on, rather than a chair -- it causes your muscles to be continually worked as they maintain your posture on the ball (most of the better stab. balls have static weight limits of something like 400-600 pounds, be sure to check that before you buy). Hope this helps!

How is everyone doing? I hope well!!! I've been on my little exercise and eating healthier plan for two weeks now and I'm feeling good. Went skiing again today, good exercise! It won't be long and C4 will be creeping up on us, I need to look halfway decent in my Jedi costume. I think I will start running again soon, i'd like to do a 5K over St. Patty's Day weekend and that would be a nice goal to keep me going. Keep up the good work everyone!

Leaving work in a bit, going home via the gym. Apparantly you have to do something for 28days for it to become a habit. Hopefully then by the end of the month going to the gym and not going straight home 4 times aweek will come naturally. Still not plucked up the courage to get on the scales ....
