Since I started, I haven't weighed myself. I have noticed that my jeans fit a little looser and some tees are fitting better. My wife has even csaid she can tell a difference. Now that the three-Thanksgiving-meals-in-three-days gauntlet is over, it is time get back on the dewback and get back to work.

Must add a thanks to Google here, for helping me convert kilograms to pounds so I didn't end up speaking in a different language to everyone else!
One thing I actually learned in my chemistry class in high school is 2.2 kilos per pound. What that is the other way pound to kilo, I have no idea!!
As for me, I have lost a couple pounds even over Thanksgiving! I'm just walking right now and will be jogging by the end of the week. Keep up the excellent work everyone!

JediXtine, I know what you mean by looking at the scale too much to see results. The way I gauge myself now is in inches. I took a starting measurement of my upper arm, bust, waist (at thinnest point), hips, and upper thigh. I like the results I see in measurement. On the scale I haven't seen as much result, but I know that is because I am building muscle while losing fat. Since I'm not gaining I take it as a good sign, even if I've only lost 15 since I started in May. However I've lost at least 3 inches at each measuring point since May, so I am highly encouraged to continue with what I am doing.

Absolutely! Three inches at each measuring point! That is great! you have lost (as I read your post)way more than 15 pounds. That is correct, muscle ways more than fat. You might think you are plateauing when the scale isn't showing smaller and smaller numbers. But the measurements will show that progress is being made. Good for you!!

Thanks. I found that this was the first exercise/food program I could stick to because it gave me a way to track all aspects of the progress I was making. I'd done other programs only to get frustrated when the scale never changed or went up. I couldn't stand it and would get frustrated and give up. But this one, I see the results, and as a number oriented person, I needed something that showed me the results too. So the scale is something I see only on occassion and the measuring tape is a great friend once a month.

you can do it! don't give up!
Do what I do, just have a little taste, that way you're not depriving yourself.
You don't need a WHOLE cookie, you just need to taste it to remember what a cookie tastes like. At least it works for me.
On the losing weight front, I haven't lost anything yet, but for the last two weeks I've been going to the gym for at least an hour every other day, sometimes every day. But when I don't go to the gym, it's usually because I have a hockey game.

I would just like to give some advice our fitness person at work gave me for those discouraged by the scale...
she said that when you are trying to lose weight you should ONLY weigh yourself once a week, at a regular time, and keep track of that and only that. It keeps your fixation off the amount, but gives you enough so that you have some idea where you are. Fluctuation is normal and weighing once a week helps reduce getting excited or discouraged over a few pounds one way or the other, which could be due to any number of random things.

Now that all the Christmas parties are over, I'll be jumping on this bandwagon. I lost about 20 pounds 3 years ago and have slowly gained it all back. It's time to get back into the healthy eating habit.
Don't forget that all this exercising is good for your heart and will increase your stamina so you can hike all over the convention center come May.

How is everyone doing? I fell off the wagon a bit for the holidays (surprise, surprise), but starting tomorrow i'm going to start back at the gym lifting weights and doing cardio. Twenty one weeks to go, so for the 30 pound goal, you only have to lose 1.42 pounds per week!
One pound of body fat is equal to about 3500 calories. So to lose 1 pound of weight per week, you need to eat 500 calories/day LESS than you burn. That's two regular sodas! Just a little tidbit I found in my travels.
I hope everyone is doing well and had a Merry Christmas!
