Jovial_Jay over on the RS boards said we should have the CIV itinerary posted about 2 weeks before the con.

I have a question:

Does anybody know if the Convention Center has wireless internet access available?

by this no outside food policy, does that include bottled water? I mean geeze... they gotta allow something.

This kinda ruins my protein bar plan... of course all i have to do is just walk outside and eat i guess... still that sucks that they won't allow stuff like that.

I guess it wouldn't be a true lucas event without having to pay for every aspect of the con:

- All day breathing bracelet: $12
- You must arrive in only your underwear and purchase out daily convention suits to walk around in: $20
- Talking to people fee: $17
- Bathroom access: $5 daily
- Wear and tear on convention carpeting: $6 daily

Be aware of these costs. wink

Before you get all huffy on the L.A. Convention Center, you should be aware that the Indianapolis Convention Center has the exact same policy in place....

You can bring in outside food and drink. Just don't plan on setting up your little folding table and selling your granny's chalupas. And no bringing in the forklift full of KFC buckets happy .

Are there recycling bins at the convention center?

There are no lockers at the convention center, but you can use the bag and coat check in the business center. Can anyone find out what the fee is?

Thanks for all the information, ValedaKor!

The convention center does recycle (thousands of tons a year, actually), but I believe that they separate everything out in the trash areas. Can't rely on attendees to "get it right," as it were.

OK, here's info from GenCon about baggage check:

"As I understand it - the LACC will be running 2 (two) bag checks. I'm not sure where they are at - only that there are plans for 2 bag check locations. It's not finalized yet, but the pricing is looking like it will be $5 for a small bag per day and $10 for a large item - like a trunk or something of that size."

Lucas (or anyone that uses the LACC) has no control over the food that's offered... that's under the control of the LACC and their contract with the food/drink vendors. And ValedaKor is right about the Indy convention center. When I spoke to Steve Sansweet at the Warwick Davis Fan Club Breakfast at C3 and told him how bad that party was, he told me that they had adhear to the convention center's policies about food and drink and to actully let them take over the running of the party. It was Steve's brain child, but it was taken out of his control and that's why it sucked.

Exactly. My nephews and parents and I brought snacks to the Indy convention center. I had my nephews carry fanny packs with little bags of treats and I had some in my camera bag/purse. We were never accosted for having/eating them. Just eat where appropriate, ie food court or fan club lounge. I even had a 20 oz coke one day and no one said anything. I kept it in my bag when not in a beverage-appropriate area. After all, they can't tell if you bought it there or not unless they demand your receipt.

Don't make it obvious that you have it by, like, trying to bring a cooler or a basket, and they probably won't even notice that it's outside food.

I think the nicest thing about C4 being at LACC is the large amount of SPACE.

If I can remember the C3 layout accuratly, the exibit room were in halls D and E. Total sq ft = 86,500

The exibit halls at C4 are H and J. Total sq ft = 153,570

The C3 store was in halls F and G I think. Total sq ft = 79,500

The C4 store is in West Hall A. sq ft = 147,506

I think we'll actually be able to walk around without feeling like cattle who have been squeezed into a pen that's too small:)

What's the accessibility like at the Convention Center? I didn't see anything specific on the web site, but that doesn't mean it isn't there. How friendly is the Convention Center to wheelchairs, mobile carts or anything with wheels? Does it have ramps next to any stairs? This is also an issue for people in complicated costumes. Generally, facilities with good wheelchair access are also good for those spectacular costumes that unfortunately impair mobility and vision.

Will any shuttles between hotels and the Convention Center also accommodate wheelchairs, carts, etc?

i was at the LA CC a few weeks ago - it is fully accessible, but there are several levels, meaning that if you have a wheelchair or cart, most likely you'll be needing to use the elevators, which are not as convenient as the large staircases. the main convention rooms (hall G (Fan Fair) and H-J (Exhibitors) are right next to each other on the same level, but this is located on the second floor - the lobby entrance to each hall is on the first floor. and the store is in the other wing. i would say that the convention center is ADA accessible but not terribly friendly. if there were more elevators in different locations or some chair lifts to overcome some of the small sets of stairs (or have ramps), it might be better. but at least nearly everything in the main halls will be on one level, so once you get in to the main level, you're ok for the day. if stuff is going on in small meeting rooms - again, gotta wait for the elevator. not a lot of ramps since so many of the staircases are so tall.

and with all the stairs, i can see many armored folk having to be very very careful or risk a fall.
