Cel phone and digital camera battery chargers. Do not forget the chargers!!! This is bad-juju.
And if you have batteries for the fans in your helmets/buckets, take 2 for each day, minimum. You don't want to be a bonehead and dry up the batteries by leaving the fans run all the time, but if you do, backups are good.

Moleskin or molefoam padding.
Conventions always involve a LOT of walking and standing around. The last thing you want is to start developing blisters after the second day, only to realize you still have 2 or 3 days left on your feet. These are great products that can help keep them dogs from barkin'.
Bathing suit
If your hotel has a pool or hottub (another blessing for these monstrous Cons), don't get stuck swimming around in your underwear. a bathingsuit can save your dignity. for those of you who wear tighty whities, this goes double for you.

Here's my #1 thing to remember to do at CIV: HAVE A GREAT TIME
Don't blow all your time standing on some insanely long line just to get an action figure.
HAVE A GREAT TIME
Don't curse yourself if you miss out on a CIV vendor exclsive.
HAVE A GREAT TIME
Oh yeah, one last thing: HAVE A GREAT TIME

I'm not an expert traveler and I've forgotten a few things in the past and paid dearly for it. So I'm glad that this thread came up!
For this trip, I'm going to plan well in advanced. I've even googled phrases such as "travel tips." Here are a few that I've come across with...
THINGS TO DO IN ADVANCE:
*Read Things to Remember above by Admidala.
*Get information about where you are going.
*Preorder CIV goodies.
*Reserve CIV shows.
*Arrange to have the lawn cut.
*Ask a neighbor or friend to keep an eye on things and to pick up any drop off, leaflets, etc. left at your door.
* Be sure that you will have enough prescription medicine.
* Buy extras you might need.
* Find out information about luggage restrictions / airport & airline rules.
THINGS TO DO WHEN YOU ARE ALMOST READY TO LEAVE:
*Stop the mail.
*Update voicemail at work with absence notification.
*Get some cash.
*Pay upcoming bills that can’t wait.
*Put name and destination phone number or destination address in luggage. Don’t put the address of your vacant home.
*Remove non-essentials from wallet or purse. (Sadly while you take a holiday, crime does not.)
*Record phone numbers for reporting lost or stolen credit cards or debit cards and put them in a location other than your purse or wallet.
*Record emergency phone numbers to leave with neighbors & relatives.
*Leave arrival & departure information to relatives meeting you at the airport.
*Start packing!
AS YOU ARE LEAVING:
*Close and lock all windows.
*Unplug small kitchen appliances.
*Turn off water to external faucets.
*Turn off water to washing machine.
*Did you want your A/C or heat, ON or OFF?

I cannot stress the usefullness of a poster tube and good backpack for around the con. If you can strap the poster tube to the side of your backpack so much the better. Add a bottle of water and some nutrition/granola bars to snack on. Prices for food and drink in the convention centre will, i'm sure, involve a saw and your left arm.

I'm trying not to think about it. bringing what snacks I can and hoping there's a breakfast included with my room.

This is why I picked a hotel with a fridge and optional microwave. I saved enough money to buy a used laptop off eBay after C3.

The one thing that I make sure I do during every trip, is have absolutely no expectations.
I like to have one or two goals that I'm positive I can accomplish, but really, I like to just enjoy the fact that I'm not at work and I'm with friends, new and old.
Even if something really tragic happens, or you forget something really big, you can always chill out at the pool with a foofy drink. It's your vacation, enjoy it
One thing though - if you're renting a car, its helpful to have your proof of insurance as well as your drivers license (and a major credit card)
