I'm curious to know who else is gonna be here. It was a hotel added later and seems very 2-star, but how much time are we going to spend in our rooms, anyway? grin

I'll be there with some guys from Denver. We moved to the Ritz after getting kicked out of the Fig by Uno. plain

All I want to know is: How is the hot tub, and how late is it open? devil

SkottASkywalker, I'm flying in from Indiana, too. Kokomo via Indianapolis, except on the 24th. My flight is way early in the morning. grin

Obey Wan, I'm not sure that the Milner has a hot tub.

Here's the website for the hotel: http://www.milner-hotels.com/la/index.html
Here's what CIV Housing has: http://www.cmrhousing.com/genc_1i/hotel-list.asp#H13

From research on the hotel from reviews on the web, most people say that the American Breakfast offered is a voucher for a full breakfast across the street at IHOP. Totally okay with me!

Okay, update!

On TripAdvisor, there's a review posted April 23, 2007 that states that the free breakfast is now 'in-house' and not at IHOP. They must have gotten the restaurant running.

According to the review on the same site posted in November, the hotel also allowed guests to check in early, and willingly held their bags after check-out for the day. The November review also showed guest-taken pictures of a clean room and bathroom with no visible damage.

There's a lot of bad reviews, but I think some of them were expecting more than a two-star hotel and didn't account for the building being an older building than the new fancy hotels in the area.

The TripAdvisor info is here: http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g32655-d249692-r7417839-Ritz_Milner_Hotel-Los_Angeles_California.html

We leave Los Angeles at 10:00PM PDT on the 28th and fly straight to Indianapolis, arriving in Indianapolis at 5:00AM EDT on the 29th.

Ouch! Going through Atlanta sounds painful. You must be on Delta?

See, I nabbed a direct flight on Northwest from IND to LAX. $220 or so before tax & fees. I leave at 7:20a EDT and arrive at 8:44a PDT, in time to get things settled for the free fan club day. Paying a bit extra for a direct flight seemed worth it to me. Of course, the last time I flew to CA a few years ago, the prices were almost double.

I'm not leaving until the Tuesday after the con, in the late afternoon.

Atlanta is not so bad for changing planes, even when it's crowded. The layout of it is pretty straightforward. LAX, OTOH is not so simple. I pretty much have a choice of changing planes in Atlanta or Atlanta, but I can get direct from there.

That wouldn't be too bad. I just don't know when exactly I'll be coming back to the hotel because I'm meeting some people that day.

Well, I'm staying at the Ritz too... but from what I understand, the pavement outside is more comfortable than the rooms... and smells better.

I've read reviews on both ends of the scale. Expect the least: a place to crash for the night. I think we'll all be pleasantly surprised with our expectations exceeded. The most recent reviews I've read have been far better, so it seems the place is improving.

I think that all of downtown LA is a work in progress. plain The Ritz-Milner is acceptable. I'm really just looking for a place to crash for CIV. If I were doing any other LA things for vacation then I might have picked something more upscale. And there's an IHOP across the street.

Nice to know that there are a few Jedi staying there. mischief -- Ani-Chay Pinn.
