Getting your costume to CIV

I am curious for those who are flying out to Cali, how are you getting your helmet and blaster there? I have my Rebel Fleet Trooper Helmet and blaster which weigh about 5lbs together.
I went on the UPS site and it would cost me between $15(ground) and $50(3 day) to send it cross country to the hotel I am staying at.
Has anyone taken their RFT helmet and blaster in their luggage? I am afraid if I do it might end up in pieces or not there at all?
HELP.....
oh and thanks in advance

If I were you, I'd bring the helmet as a carry-on. That way no cracking will occur. The blaster should be OK in checked luggage - consult your airline's website for details on whether you need to "claim" it or anything when you check the luggage. You're allowed to check a real gun, so a fake one should be fine
We're shipping our Snowtrooper armor via Fedex - about 75.00 for three-day - and I'm checking my Tie Pilot armor and bringing my Tie bucket on as carry-on.

I elected to go with soft costumes only. The TK armor is staying in NYC. When it comes to my prop weapons I have a few ideas.
One is to completely dis-assemble my RLSA Lightsaber, put it in a clear plastic bag and label it. That way any "pipe bomb" thoughts by the TSA will be lessened a bit. My ANH Han Blaster is going to be labeled with a luggage tag as a prop weapon and I will declare my 3 'weapons' (10' bullwhip is the third) when I check my baggage, just to be on the safe side. I am also planning on typing up a complete 'cargo manifest' listing each piece of each costume/weapon and leaving it in the luggage for the TSA to use for reference. I'll keep a copy of the manifest myself just in case something should go missing. I really don't want to get to LA only to find out that some TSA peon is putzing around with my bullwhip out on the tarmac at JFK. That would make me one very angry Indy

My armour has just arrived in LA by post
My helmet I cannot take onboard with me has carry on luggage as I am flying internationally but I have bought a tom tom drum hardcase online which is strong enough to withstand the cargo hold.

I am sending mine by fedex with all of the security at Heathrow, its not worth the hassle of putting it in my luggage,it will probably go to LA tommorrow which means it will be there either Wednesday or Thursday, also a good tip is to get your parcels marked Star Wars Celebration, just so your hotel knows what its for and more than likly they will have a place so you can pick it up the other end
