The Business Center in the hotel has two computers - you'll need a credit card to use one. The Business Center is open 24 hours.
Sweet, that's what I was lookin' for. I'd probably go insane without internet access for this trip.
And maybe - like basically every San Diego Comic-Con I've been to - I'll learn more thru online reports than I will by being at C4.

I'll be the only fan from Hawaii at the Sheraton. But I don't think I'll be able to bring my coconuts and grass skirt. SoCal like Hawaii has some pretty strict agricultural rules.

Awwww...that would've been great! You could have bellydanced with the Slave Leias, Hawaiian-Style!
I really thought about bringing fruit, lol...I'm vegetarian and wasn't sure what I'd find downtown, so yeah, great idea, I'll pack some peaches from my peach tree along with some chilis and squash, hahaha! Glad I read all the "Newbie LA visitor/Convention" threads!
Wonder what rules are on packing beer? A nice Texas beer (Shiner Bock) would set off the convention just right!

I wouldn't be surprised if veg*n restaurants were more widespread in LA than in Texas. I'm mostly just wondering what the cost of eating out all the time is going to be like -- ouch. Which part of Texas are you from?

I live about 15 miles south of Austin (Buda), and work/shop in Austin and San Marcos. Very veg-friendly restaurants and grocery stores...I guess my main concern is how expensive the food might be in LA, haha! I'm figuring I'll be buying lots of stupid (and expensive!) stuff at the convention.
What I'd like to find are some good Mexican restaurants! MMmmmm...cheesy enchiladas...
BTW...star_killer1, that Monty Python's Holy Ale IS good! I can already see I'm going to be spending a LOT of money next week!

Hi Matthew (and everybody else) - I and three friends will be staying at the Sheraton. I think only one of us does costuming now; she marched in the Rose Parade as an Episode I handmaiden.

Hmm...haven't really seen this addressed, but are they going to bill my credit card prior to next week's stay? Not sure how that works...?!
I'm trying to budget how much money I'll have on hand to get me through the week leading up to CIV. Having to spend a bit more than expected this week (car problems, etc.).
Thanks!
BTW, wonder what kind of menu "The Grill" at the Sheraton has! Mmmmm...

I don't think you should get billed before you arrive. If I remember correctly, if you reserve through Gen Con they don't bill till you arrive. If you booked directly through Sheraton or Starwood they don't bill you till you get there, and even then only a hold until you leave and then they bill for full amount.
I don't plan to eat at the hotel much, but I hope "The Grill" menu isn't full of stuff like $15 cheeseburgers like some hotels just in case I need room service.

Hmm, interesting. I had to give them my credit card info but they haven't billed me yet. I just assumed I'd have to pay in full at check-in, but it would be nice if they held off for an extra week. That delay might be enough to push it back to the next month's statement. Hmm, if I'm lucky...
Do you think there will be anywhere to get free internet or free wireless service around the area of the hotel? I know the hotel has pay-per-minute internet terminals (probably not cheap), but I'm wondering what would happen if I brought a laptop and tried to use it there. I haven't decided yet whether it would be worth it or not, but I have a feeling internet is going to be very important for finding out schedules and convention information, so I want to make sure I have something planned one way or the other. Maybe there are cafes or something nearby that offer free wifi.
(For anyone wondering, even if I did bring my laptop you wouldn't want to break into our room to get it; it's an old Dell and not worth much. And I would probably triple lock it to three different pieces of furniture just to be safe. )

I don't know about this Sheraton, but most of the chain offers internet for guests at around $10/day or a reduced weekly rate. I may pay the hotel for access or I might use my Cingular aircard if the 3G service is good in downtown.

You have to pay for internet??!!! Wow...where I live most hotels offer it complimentary for guests...heck, most of the time I can drive into the parking lot and just connect.
No microwaves...? I guess I got this all wrong, somehow I thought there were refrigerators and microwaves in the rooms. Oh well (adds cost to rent fridge into budget).
Finally paid for SuperShuttle service, so, looks like things are all in place...I can hardly wait for next week!

What I like to do at hotels is get a bucket full of free ice and use that as my fridge. Or, if it's wintertime and cold outside, sometimes you can just put your food on the sill between the outer and inner panes of the window and nature will keep it cool for you for a little while. I did that one time when I was in Israel and I didn't know how to get a fridge.
It does say in that post there's wifi in the lobby, and I guess we'll just have to find out if it's free or not. Good enough for me, I guess.

Very nice interactive map...finally got to sit down and take a good look today...
Anyone wanna go see the Morrison Hotel? I'm a big Doors fan (one of their best albums, Morrison Hotel!) and would love to go by...it's an abandoned building with a bad rep, I've heard, but I would like to get pictures...BF thinks it may not be such a good idea, haha!
Funny, we've got the Salvation Army, Macy's, Christian Science Center, all kinds of stuff nearby! Museum of Modern Art sounds like a winner.
