I'm surprised there hasn't been a thread on this yet.

It was an absolute blast! Lots of applause and cheers throughout. The only negative reaction was for Greedo Shoots First, and even that was kind of muted.

One particular moment: When Luke finally tells Palpatine off ("I am a Jedi, like my father before me."), big round of applause and a loud, "HELL, YEAH!" from an audience member. And the cheer when Han saves Luke during the trench run was louder than the movie.

Just about the only problem I saw was that the project was framed so that the subtitles for TPM, ANH & ROTJ weren't visible. Still, we all knew the lines well enough to get past it.

And it even finished early (1AM, rather than the publicized 2AM).

I had to leave in the middle of ESB =(. I had been up for 40 hours at that point and I was starting to get cross-eyed lol. Other than that I had a blast! I don't know if anybody heard me, but I shouted "Yeah, Wedge!" when he blasted that TIE fighter off of Lukes' butt in ANH.

That would've probably been the highlight of the convention had I attended. What do the commemorative buttons look like?

The announcement of the movie marathon came too late for me to plan to come a day earlier so that my poor eyes would be rested. As it turned out I arrived in LA around 12pm and only had two hours of sleep the night before. (Next time I'll be packed and ready so that I can get a decent night's rest.) By the time I got settled at the hotel and found out where in the center the movies were showing (waaaaay on the other side of this humongous complex I knew nothing about) the last 35 minutes of Sith was on. At first I didn't want to watch it because the end is intense and sad, but after roaming around the place and not finding anything to eat (I was so hungry!), I gave up and watched the last 15 minutes. And enjoyed it! It's SW after all. But I didn't like when people clapped when Obi-Wan sliced Anakin's limbs off. I know some folks don't like the character, but what was that? plain I thought the scene was heartbreaking myself. Anyway, I also gave in and bought high priced movie food during the intermission between Sith and Hope. I just managed to finish Hope - and the sound for the films was so wonderful and sharp - before my eyes gave out. I was disappointed that I couldn't see the beloved Empire and then Jedi to see Luke in his bad*** black suit throw down his lightsaber and say, "I am a Jedi - like my father before me," (Did I get the quote right? I should know it by heart. blush ) and to see the Chosen One save his son and kill the emperor. applause

At C5 I hope they have the marathon again because I will be prepared next time!

I do find it interesting that people attend a convention to see films that they can see anytime, rather than meet new people/see new things that they would never normally get an opportunity to do.

I'm sure the cinema experience was great (just like the old days), but when you sit and think about it, it does seem kinda bizzare.

Anyway, each to their own.

The announcement of the marathon came too late for me; I already had my plane reservations and didn't want to pay the penalty fee for changing them, plus another night in a hotel. Even so, I probably wouldn't have done the marathon because they can be pretty tiring, even if they're fun (you just can't get crowd participation in your living room). I didn't want to wear myself out before CIV even started!

But I met tons of new people! There was twenty to thirty minutes between movies, and we just walked around and talked to whomever would talk to us. It was far from a bizarre experience. The energy in the room was electric and incredible. Even though I've seen the movies many times, have you seen it in a room with 3,000+ people? Wouldn't you agree that had to be something special?

I left after ROTS. I got goosebumps for TPM's Obi Wan vs. Darth Maul fight seeing how energetic the fans got about it.
Hated that one person who KEPT TAKING PICTURES OF THE SCREEN ILLUMINATIN A RED DOT IN THE CENTER!!!
Also, I was annoyed by that one guy who shouted out "use birth preventation" during Anakin and Padmé's reunion and "idiot" when Anakin joined the Emperor.

Did anyone notice how no one from the staff reacted about the AOTC opening audio glitch until the third or fourth exchange of dialogue. And when they corrected it, the Palpatine's Office scene was turned up so high you'd think you'd go deaf.
Anyway, it was great seeing all three digital.

I don't deny that the atmosphere would've been great, no arguements there. I guess for me it would be about weighing up the importance of time and how little of it there was. Considering around 14 hours would've been required to see all six films, I guess I would've opted to spend that time doing something I don't normally get to do.

Having said that, I'm sure the experience would've spoken for itself, and if it was electric then that's great to hear.

You also have to remember that being from Australia means that every waking moment would be something to cherish, which for me, is meeting new faces in the crowd.

Glad the screening rocked though. happy

I was looking forward to the marathon more than anything else at CIV and it didn't dissappoint! The setup was a lot better than I expected, the crowd was terrific (especially the reactions to some of the iconic lines like "I am your father" and "I love you... I know."), and I got to meet some really great people. By the end of it we were all cheering, laughing, and congratulating each other on making it through the whole thing. For me, it was a thrill to finally see the original trilogy on a big screen.

I hope I get to do this again one day. Celebration V perhaps?

After arriving from Australia on the tuesday arvo-will call, back to holiday inn for eats and drinks, didnt get out of bar til 11pm.
lined up at 7am for marathon, seen it all the way through til 1am,was delirious at the end of it,staggered back to hotel, got up at 5am for fanday, lol.lined up again.

Awesome how we all cheered when a character first appeared on screen, and those spine tingling moments like the luke/vader scene from ESB etc etc.Was nice to see Mary F stayed the whole time through, and steve S to comment in between film!!

So many fans-good times.

My wife and I made it thru Empire, then we had to call it quits. The time difference from NY to LA got the better of us after flying all day on Tuesday. Reluctantly, we grabbed our movie marathon pins and headed back to the Fig hotel for some much-needed shut eye before the con started.

The atmosphere was electric. Easily one of the highlights for us for CIV.

5 out of 6 ain't too bad, right? wink

I still think they should have had continuous showings of the 6 movies throughout the convention, rather then just stop it after showing each movie once and end it on Thursday.

I think they should have shown two each night for three of the nights or something. Continuous screenings just dilutes the audience for all of them, but if Thursday night had been TPM/AOTC (skip that one), Friday opening ceremonies, Saturday ROTS/ANH, and Sunday ESB/ROTJ that could have been fun. Although it would have eaten into our Fig time.

Dags, they only showed the movies on Wednesday, when the Con hadn't even opened yet, so it's not like people were choosing between Con activities or the movies. It was either bum around LA or watch the movies with 3000 fans.
