Here's what I don't understand about that theory - if Lucas had really put in the effort to come to C4, why would the evacuation have stopped him from making an appearance? He could have showed up later during the ceremony or the next day as a surprise guest. It wouldn't make sense for him to turn around and go home at that point if he'd already taken time out from his schedule to come.

Ok so I had the same experience as most of you here and my wife and i were pretty irritated from waiting in line for so long. We followed the "mass migration" across the street and wandered over to west hall where we could still get in. Unfortunately, no activities were going on. We talked to one of the staff members and he told us to have our cell phones ready and vietnam was finally coming to our shores and he believed in being an informed citizen so that we could help out (what the?) So we waited around outside for a while because we couldnt get on our bus - it was trapped in the blockade. The other busses were parked on the street and were told to stay put. About an hour later we decided to walk over to South hall again after hearing that it had reopened. As we approached the doors, we were directed to either cross through to our cars in the parking garage or go to the celebration iv store. We decided to wander around and get some answers. At that point, upstairs, we saw an interview from channel 4. The man being interviewed said "the show went on as planned and it was a successful event" The newsanchor said "now wait a minute, does this all make sense? your telling me that the line was too long and the fire marshall didnt like the size of it AND a bomb threat happened at the same time, YET the event still went on as planned?" He just replied "yes, it was a coincidence". Meanwhile, his manager (i assume) was pacing nervously back and forth and getting really upset at what information he was revealing. So then, and heres the kicker, we walk back to the Opening Ceremonies auditorium AND THE SHOW IS STILL GOING ON!!! .... WITH TONS OF SEATS AVAILABLE!!!! So we sat down and caught the tail end of the prequels in 30 minutes (or maybe it was less) and saw about 20 minutes of the event. It was infuriating to be waiting in line with false hopes of getting in then shuffled around like that with no clue what was going on, and waiting around forever, not necessarily by choice, but then to be directed elsewhere and not even told the show was still going on, grab a seat? ARGH! Listen up GENCON, be communicative about these events, dont have people waiting in a line for something they have no chance of getting in to. Secondly, if you do have a huge amount of people attending for the day and the auditorium only holds around 30%, broadcast it around the convention, how hard is that? No lines, no problems, everyone gets to see it. Thats really my only complaint about the convention, i had a blast otherwise!

MrShiny posted: Gen Con staff was told there was a "special Humvee" on Friday. During the evac, he was moved out first (most likely to prevent any additional problems moving others out). He was absolutely there and was supposed to speak at the opening, but it was a very last minute thing that got ruined by the evacuation. I don't think he had any interaction with Offical Pix, nor anyone but the staff working right around the opening.
It is amazing how rumors like this get started. If George Lucas was at C4, why did they have a prerecorded message from him explaining why he could not be there??? Also, a lot of people own Hummers these days (including me), so a "special Humvee" outside doesn't mean anything.

The rummors were it was a "suspicious package". I had to take a taxi back to the hotel because the shuttles stopped running on Figueroa/Pico. It was upsetting, we placed our stuff with them and they told we would not be able to pick up until everything was "clear."
I got lucky and picked up my stuff and left around 9:30 p.m. I think this was a big hoax. In my opinion was that the "disorganizers" were not able to handle the crowd so they sent us away. Who knows...
I did enjoy C4 though.
My second theory..."It was the trekkies..."

If I missed Lucas, I'd be like "meh." But if I missed Hamill, I'd cry.

I had heard the rumor that there were going to be someone special there for opening ceremonies. I must have been one of the last to get in, I remember looking around and seeing a lot of empty spaces and wondering why they didn't let more people in. The opening ceremony in itself was really boring after they had handed out the cake.

Well, I don't know who you were talking to, but you sure could walk up to anyone not on the first row of celebrities and talk to them and take pictures with them (if the celeb was allowing that). I can understand why people like Carrie Fisher, Anthony Daniels and Ray Park weren't allowing people just to walk up and talk to them since they'd probably have been mobbed.

It was a last minute thing, so the recording was a contingency. I spoke personally with the woman who screamed in his face during the evacuation, and have no reason to believe she (or any of the staff) were lying.
He was there and was the first one out of the building.

Sorry, but if Lucas did in fact go to C4 and never make an appearance, I would find that to be personally insulting as a fan. If he was escorted out because of the "bomb scare" and the fire marshall, city of LA, head of security, or who ever was attempting to control that fiasco (which I in fact had no idea this even happened until I got home from LA) still allowed the show to continue and the people inside were not evacuated from the facilities, I would find that to be rediculous and one in which I would like a public explanation and appology from the City of LA for failing to protect the lives and interests of those inside. This "special humvee" for all we know was for the Mayor of LA, who was there. Let me get this straight...a bomb threat occurs, LA officials evacuate George Lucas, but leaves the Mayor of LA inside? It just doesn't add up.
