Just got back from the Opening Ceremonies. Celebration my ass, if felt like a funeral for "Star Wars." Few things are more depressing than a room full of hopeful, supportive fans (mis)treated by a stage full of D-list actors eating cake, a poor pianist plunking out unimpressive film scores and the Celebration serving the fans cake that tasted like sponge with butter; and we all sat there. "Star Wars" is dead. This ceremony was its eulogy.

I was getting (and still am) upset about all these "security" guys yelling at us in the line leading up to the opening. "You WILL go to the bathroom in a group or you may not get back into line!".
Then I had to check my nice FX lightsaber (I was VERY upset about this!)into baggage check before entering the auditorium...Jay does his "Celebration" song asking people to "wave your lightsabers"!
I thought the cake was good, but cake in the MIDDLE of the event? strange...
I thought that George not showing up sucked, especially since the trade guy next to me says that the filming for Indy 4 doesn't start for 2 weeks!
The yelling from earlier continued as people tried to pick up their stuff from baggage check...where my lightsaber had been piled up on shelves with others...this is after I had been treating it with kid gloves (setting it on terry cloth, etc.).
Then we waited for the shuttle bus going to the Sheraton (route #4) in what everyone thought was the right spot this time...nope, you should be over THERE...
This is my first Celebration and everything had been so smooth until today...
Okay...(breathe deep)...rant over...for now!

Yeah, George just doesn't care about us. The excuse of George not being here because of his work with the new "Indy" film feels bogus. Word is all the on-site shooting for the new "Indy" film is in New Mexico - not London. Then in July the film's stage shots will be done here, in Los Angeles. So why was George in London? And didn't his video message look like the guy was hanging at his California home - or, perhaps, in a room backstage at the LA Convention Center? George doesn't give a (expletive deleted).

I saw him at C III. It was cool hearing him talk about ROTS.

So did I. They actually seemed to care about making the fans happy then. Hate to say it but check out the list of actors that are going to be at Star Trek Vegas convention this year. They have flippin everyone going! Kirk, Spock... you name it. HUGE LIST! I expected the same for the 30th Anniversary of Star Wars!

OMG...Talk about SNORE FEST 07. We just sat through the most boring Open Ceremony ever. It almost seemed like a giant SALES PITCH, do we at least get a TIME SHARE for that. It was not the least bit exciting.
The cake tasted like it was frozen in carbonite for the last 30 years...lol.
The most exciting part of the show was when the USC band played music and came down the aisles followed by a small band of Stormtroopers...but it literally sucked!!!
Dont worry about missing out on the cake though, I am sure they will serve the same cake at the next Con.

For me, baggage claim was unnecessary and a real hassle, especially after the very long ceremony. Then the whole mess with the bus back to the Sheraton was another insult. I got out of the ceremony at 10PM and didn't get back to the Sheraton until 10:40PM. I should have walked.

You're right about the sales pitch part. It felt like they were trying to convince us that Star Wars will be around for a long time to come and that C4 is great. I'm already here and I have a schedule. Give me real information, like confirming when both TV shows are going to air.

Please keep these words of encouragement for those of us who opted out of this "Celebration". After going to Celebrations I-III, I was really down about missing this one. At first. Now sitting here with my place full of family and friends with our own Celebration going on watching the films and mountains of "fan" DVD's with vintage specials and docs, I realize that my staying home from this one was for the best. I was pretty sure that this one was going to be one last cash in for the Star Wars brand before LFL switched its focus over to Indiana Jones. While I am glad for myself and friends that I was right, I do feel really bad for those of you at this thing that are being treated so poorly.
Star Wars IS forever. But to me, the only way to keep it pure and untainted is to seperate LFL's cash machine from the magic that the original films represented to us all in the first place.
Hope things improve over the weekend for you guys.

If you guys find yourselves in a Q&A with Sansweet, can you ask why we're not even getting a Saga Box Set this year? And whether its anything to do with the fiasco of last years DVD release?
Thanks.

I felt a great disturbance in the force. As if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror. Then were suddenly silenced. The Saga returns; August 15th 2008.

Sansweet probably grabbed a limo after the Opening Ceremonies and sped away to plan his Comic Con presentation.
