I thought one of the highlights of the ceremonies would be the "In Memorium" when they showed clips of those Star Wars actors and artists who have passed on. However, it was in poor taste that in the montage, they actually showed clips of the actors' characters being killed! For example, when Admiral Ozzel being choked by Vader and Porkins being blown up in his X-Wing. I thought it was very tasteless.
And I'm usually a very loyal and optimistic Star Wars fan, but I was very disappointed last night as well. Starting the evening with the asinine idiot who is the Mayor of LA didn't help either. Nor did the news of the evacuations when I came back to my hotel.
Here's hoping Saturday is better.

It was actually the first Opening Ceremony I had been to out of the three celebrations I was at... I was hoping for some bigger news or something, but I didn't think it was that bad. Yes, some of the non-SW speakers went on a bit too long, and some of the stage hosts just sounded like commercials for their respective stages, but the cake wasn't nearly as bad as everyone makes it seem, and seeing the rocket-powered Fett fly at the end was pretty darn cool (and loud).
BTW, before complaining about the "In Memoriam" montage (which I did not have any issues with), please keep in mind that the creator is someone who posts here and will likely be reading the comments.

People love to complain about anything. I read plenty of complaints about C III, but I had an awesome time. If you hate these cons, stay home.

The video was very well put together and I was surprised it was done by a fan and not someone at Lucasfilm. The idea behind the memoriam montage was a nice one. However, I stil the inclusion of the death scenes still made me feel uncomfortable. Apologies to whoever made it, but that's just the way I feel.

Val, are you sitting down???????
I have to say that I have been one of the most negative people on these boards about CIV. Honestly, I had a really good time. I didn't get autographs, so I wasn't disappointed. My wife and I lined up on Thursday at 11:30, got all but one of the exclusives we wanted and saw a lot of the things we wanted to within 3 hours. Friday, by myself I got more stuff and Saturday we saw Mr. McFarlane. Funny as hell. Gentle Giant can go out of business as far as I care, but everything else was great. We stayed at the Hyatt in Century City and they are treating us like royalty. I have never been treated so well at a hotel.

People complaining about people complaining? Pot, kettle, black? The problem isn't blind complaints, its blind devotion or adoration for anything with Lucas' name attached to it. Granted, Saturday's edition of C4 was more vibrant and intriguing than Friday, but it still lacks the star power of past celebrations and we're left to sift through the scraps of "Star Wars" alumni with little or no dialogue in the films. This isn't a celebration. It's a forced march through memories that outweigh the present.

Why did you go then? Did you honestly expect GL to appear out of nowhere and announce another SW movie?

I am not a complainer, and I am always trying to make the best of a bad situation, but I must agree, this is Snorebration, not Celebration. I have been to Celebration before and this is not what I am used to, and its not the lack of a movie comming out, but rather the lack of enthusiam.
I mean there is very little people walking around in costume, the celebs just dont seem to be in it as much, the shows are kinda dry and boring and the people are very different, not as close knit.
I could not wait for the Con, but now I am looking at it in a whole different light. I almost feel like it was thrown together for people to make money, not for the fans. Sorry if this upsets anyone at all, but I am an optimist and this just bites. I am looking more forward to doing our sight seeing on Monday than the Con, it just was not up to standard!!!
However, meeting some people from the boards has been fun. I ran into Grog Starkiller and Valedekor, they are great people...and very funny. I hope to run into some others tomorrow!!!
May the Force be with You!!!

My boyfriend told me the other day that there might be a forth one. He'd heard rumours about a title and everything, but I didn't let him tell me what the title or basic plot was, because I'm not a fan of spoilers.

Ok, so I'm the one who created the video. I appreciate the criticism and I was in fact expecting it, like all who create video for the public. Believe me, it was a very difficult decision to decide whether to include scenes of the actor's characters being killed. I heavily debated it and decided to use it for a number of reasons. First of all, for a lot of those characters, their death scene is often one of the memorable parts of the film for fans. Admiral Ozzel has one of the most famous death scenes in the saga and Michael Sheard loved reenacting the scene at cons for fans. But the reason to include the death footage was more practical than anything else. The characters just didn't have a lot of screen footage to recognize the actors appropriately without including that footage. I would not have had enough footage and the video would not have flowed accordingly with the music if I hadn't used it, and I thought it played very poetically with the music I was using. Now if one of the actors had actually been a victim of a shooting or plane crash or horrible incident, I might have reconsidered using it, but since the actors died of natural causes or cancer etc. I felt there would be no harm done in showing those scenes. Thanks for the criticism!
