Being that this was my first Celebration attending, I don't really have much to compare it to. But I thought it was all right, even Sunday when a lot of the main stuff had passed (two of the Halls looked empty) and items pined for were sold out. Didn't see the Opening Ceremonies because I had a biochemistry lab class all Friday. Definitely not the star-power I had hoped for in a big city convention but people had fun and that's all that counts. Still, it's too bad they didn't have some kind of satellite conference with GL or something. Though in the Clone Wars Lucasfilm Animation Studio video tour, everyone said hi to the camera/convention fans BUT Lucas!

Stephen Sansweet said that your contribution was one of the most amazing things he had ever received. He said something to the effect (this was in the panel participants after-panel get-together this morning) that it was one of the most moving things he'd ever seen, and he was very, very pleased that it had crossed his desk -- "I get a lot of stuff, and this really caught my eye." So, you have a fan happy .

Yeah, big congrats again to you Ian. I thought the movie was great and tastefully done.

As for opening ceremonies. I think apart from the stamp lady being boring and lame as hell and the whole "read the program" portion of the evening, it wasn't too bad and it CERTAINLY didn't feel like Star Wars was dead.

This was suppose to be the biggest one! The 30th anniversary of Star Wars, and George Lucas and Rick McCallum decide not to show up plain

One thing I'm wondering is why Mark Hamill wasn't there, the man's career is in the toilet, he's doing voice over auditions for the role of the Joker on saturday cartoons, if anything you'd think he would have shown up for a quick buck.

It's not that he didn't want to be. He had a scheduling conflict.

I'm not flaming at all, but I think the 30th anniversary of Star Wars is a big event...can't some things be re-scheduled?

I was only able to get the con on Sat and Sun, is the video online anywhere? It sounds like a very cool video that I wish I was able to see. Missed the opening ceremonies since I had flown in on friday night.

Ok, so I'm the one who created the video. I appreciate the criticism and I was in fact expecting it, like all who create video for the public. Believe me, it was a very difficult decision to decide whether to include scenes of the actor's characters being killed. I heavily debated it and decided to use it for a number of reasons. First of all, for a lot of those characters, their death scene is often one of the memorable parts of the film for fans. Admiral Ozzel has one of the most famous death scenes in the saga and Michael Sheard loved reenacting the scene at cons for fans. But the reason to include the death footage was more practical than anything else. The characters just didn't have a lot of screen footage to recognize the actors appropriately without including that footage. I would not have had enough footage and the video would not have flowed accordingly with the music if I hadn't used it, and I thought it played very poetically with the music I was using. Now if one of the actors had actually been a victim of a shooting or plane crash or horrible incident, I might have reconsidered using it, but since the actors died of natural causes or cancer etc. I felt there would be no harm done in showing those scenes. Thanks for the criticism!

Typho, I really liked that. Or well, it was really moving. It was sad, but powerful, i thought.

Of course, I also considered the cake to be good.

Typho, your doc was great, it was the highlight of a rather very boring Opening Ceremonies. I think the lack of scenes to choose from was a big problem, but hey those actors were best known for their death scenes. I was very glad to see Alec on the list, that actually brought a tear to my eyes!!! GOOD JOB FRIEND!!!

I absolutely loved the con as a whole, but I didn't think the opening ceremonies were that grand. It was an introduction of sorts, but I could have done without it to be honest. That's about it though. I loved the convention!

If they'd allowed lightsabres in there, playing Celebrate would have been absolutly awesome, and def been one of the high-water mark of celebration.

Yeah, having been in a small room full of lightsabres... that room full of the number of sabres that would've been in there would have been awesome. All Geonosisy and all.

Hmmmmm, I never go to the opening ceremonies of any convention I go to because I know people work really hard on them and I always find them dumb. So, I save time and don't go.

However, I was supposed to stand outside of the opening ceremonies hall with a sign to meet up with friends, but the bomb squad would not let anyone back into the building after the partial evacuation of the convention center. They had fire engines, police cars, flashing lights and everything over whatever 'suspicious suitcase' that was mentioned on KTLA. Far more interesting than any kind of opening ceremonies. I heard that they were worried about causing a stampede if they emptied Hall K. People should have complained to the mayor, since he was there. But apparently people inside didn't even know about the whole fire drill.

I have never thought of Celebration as a convention at all. The schedule is too sparse for that. It's Star Wars trade show to me. I treat it like that and enjoy it. Personally, if Celebration were to be a real convention to me, I would prefer it to have no performer guests with none expected, like that Harry Potter conferences.

Lucas was doing the new Indiana Jones film. It was a matter of conflicting schedules.
